Sky and 'Falls

Think maybe it's the idea of this I like, rather than necessarily the result: blue sky reflected in the water - be interested in your thoughts

Taken a few weeks ago, a lovely village but it was the waterfalls, although small, which I particularly liked and we spent a fair bit of time - so I have no excuses!

Re: Sky and 'Falls

I like the picutre Mark, but can't help wanting to see a bit more of the trees at the top of the image. That said it's well executed, enough blur to give the feeling of movement, with out losing the reflection of the sky in the water. Nice one

I like it just as it is, Mark. However, it does look like the sort of place where a wider shot would also work well, and then satisfy Mouldy's desire to see a bit more of the surrounding area.

Re: Sky and 'Falls

Agree about the view, would like to see more of the trees. Perhaps a portrait orientation would've allowed this without having to change viewpoint or angle of view, to which end I think the RHS could be cropped for portrait. Lovely shot, Mark, the reflection of the sky in the water gives it an icy feel. Nice one

Re: Sky and 'Falls

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated!

Yeah, one of them "too clever by half", I fear, Matt - in making sure I didn't include any actual sky, I squeezed that backdrop too thin!

A wider shot would've meant doing a pano, Graham. Damn! Now why didn't I think of doing a pano!

Ahh, now I did take a couple of portrait orientated shots, Charlotte, tho not when there was blue sky there (cloudy earlier). Was one of those scenes where the "obvious" comp didn't present itself, so did try quite a few variations

Thanks for the suggestions - will take another look at what I've got and maybe pull one out. There again, I could revisit Berriew and retake the shot (will be in the area a fair bit in the future)

Re: Sky and 'Falls

Very good as is and like Charlotte I would have liked to have seen a shot in portrait but as you say you had cloud cover (poor excuse)

Certainly a good excuse to re-visit for another shoot

Re: Sky and 'Falls

Well you said you looked at various other shots so I won't go on about what might have been, I just like the image as it is. The blue sky reflection works really well amidst the yellow of the water flowing over rocks and lichen. Lovely image,

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Sky and 'Falls

I much admire this shot, Mark, I was out this morning trying for a similar look. However, since there was snow on the ground and on the rocks in the river, it was impossible to get a shutter speed slow enough to blur the water without blowing out the snow. Quite the challenge.
I like the contrast of colors here - blue sky reflection, green on the rocks and that yellow green of the water.

Re: Sky and 'Falls

Hey, thanks muchly for all your comments!

Revisit planned, P-E. 'Might have been' away, Rob - always up for suggestions!

Someone stick Soup back on his perch - he appears to have fallen off!

Ahh, the curse of the blown highlights, Paul! We've all been there before! Must admit that I like a faster shutter speed as well, so brightness wouldn't stop me shooting......... or else use an ND Grad (as suggested by Peter - and no, I don't own any Grads) or a Circular Polariser

Get out there, David!
