Re: Slip sliding away...

well i dont know enough about quad bikes to know if i like them or not, and this pic aint pretty! but it is full of action which you have captured admirably...... love the shots of the ballet dancing girl! lol
however this shot i think is very washed out in everything apart from the bike, so i would like to see more contrast in the surroundings.
not sure if u class me as qualified but im commenting anyway!

Think my comment has been taken the wrong way, just looking for constructive criticism.

Re: Slip sliding away...

Well Tim, I think the original is a little flat around the quad. I've altered the levels a bit using the histogram and increased the contrast and set the black and white points to make sure the range is good. I've done a small amount of burnng all round, but the surface of the track does not have much detail other than the stones.

I've added a black border to try to keep the eye in the picture,

Re: Slip sliding away...

Thanks dabhand, like your alterations!

Interestingly enough, the burnt out effect is what I was going for, with a b&w conversion in mind.

Re: Slip sliding away...

not sure why you choose b+w,. if the quad and rider and in vibrant colours then it might add to the impact,. depends

Re: Slip sliding away...

A good attempt but I would suggest a couple of ways of improving. On this shot increase the contrast as others have said. When you take this type of shot you can add more drama if you get much lower possibly lie on the ground. It also help if you can get closer with a wide angle shot but this may not be allowed for safety reasons.
