Re: Sluicegate.
Not sure whether you tried for a slow exposure or whether the sun was just very bright but the splashpool is very strong and burnt out, especially on the left one. The picture is generally quite light, about a stop over exposed, but I think this is because you were balancing the light to get the upper portion right.
Pleasant enough shot despite the lighting. Cheers, Rob |

Re: Sluicegate.
Hi Fox,
Your picture should would go well with oboe music... I love the oboe (my brother plays it quite beautifully) and I like looking at your picture. On the critique side: besides what Rob said, I have the feeling that the reds are a little intense and that a tripod could have helped to keep the motion-blur under control. I am not sure whether it is considered bad style to offer a subject related shot of my own in such a thread, but I made the picture small and the moderators are certainly welcome to remove the picture. So, here is my take on the topic 'sluice'. To prove once more that I am a weird guy, I kept the water out of it... ![]() Cheers, Peter |

Re: Sluicegate.
Agree with both comments above.Re the 'burn-out' on the water.Either as Rob said, ie sunshine, or did you perhaps use the Contrast tool in Photoshop?.The colours certainly 'pop' using this tool but it plays havoc with highlights in clouds etc .

Re: Sluicegate.
Hi again,
The radio played an oboe concerto by Albinoni (with Heinz Holliger on the oboe), so I downloaded the original image and played with it a little. I still think it goes well with Oboe music. I tried to recover some of the highlight information, removed some blue color cast, desaturated everything a bit and reduced the red content, so to speak. What do you think? before ![]() after ![]() Cheers, Peter |

Re: Sluicegate.
Thanks Peter for your comments and the improvements , it was the musical sound of the stream that drew me to the spot. Pleased to hear you liked it and associated it with music.
All comments have been taken on board .Thank you. |
