Snap on the move, SNOW!
Again, my pitiful efforts. I really could have done with my 10-20mm but it hasn't yet arrived
. It was shot on a practice walk for an expedition this summer so i had next to no time to think about what would've made it better.![]() If anything i should imagine the composition is likely to be a critical point with this. Oh well if i can learn only one thing from posting this it will make me a better camera user ![]() I like the detail in the puddle, but i know its not obvious and i also like the shape of the track and how it goes thorugh the picture but i don't think it leads the eye enough. Anyway i'll let you educated people tell me whats good (im hopeful) and bad MiKE |

Re: Snap on the move, SNOW!
I'm a great supporter of the 'lead-in' and reckon you've got it about right - getting down lower would've still given you the same with some more trees in shot.
Not too sure what mono has brought to the party as the amount of the resulting detail makes the image slightly confusing - be interested to see the colour version and whether this helps 'sort out' the detail!

Markulous has just about summed it up. I would only add that I wonder why you shot at ISO 1600? You could have used a slower shutter speed rather than up the ISO, which tends to introduce noise.

Re: Snap on the move, SNOW!
I don't know why i shot at ISO 1600 either
I think that the previous shots were in a very dark place and also i wanted a fast shutter speed because i was trundeling along with quite a large rucksack on so i wouldn't be very steady at all. That also explains why i didn't get lower. Oh well, next time it snows i can jus pop up to the same place and take the same shot anytime.

Re: Snap on the move, SNOW!
First let me say I am not a big fan of mono.
The mono conversion has left a very busy picture. With the exception of the water the various elemsnts tend to merg into one and other. I guess the colour version may not have this problem. |

OK here we go, I did a quick edit for you. Just played individually with the shadows and highlights, trying to create a bit of separation. Also boosted the saturation a little bit.

Re: Snap on the move, SNOW!
If im honest i really don't like that level of saturation. Thanks anyway.
I think nothing is going to get away from the fact that it's a really busy pic. Thats just the nature of the flora. To me it looks no busier in mono than colour and the colour just looks a bit tame no matter how much saturation. Thanks for all the tips ![]() MiKE |

Re: Snap on the move, SNOW!
I like this last picture you did MIKE, the tree down the road looks better, I would suggest that you darken the water as it distracts from the snow in the F/G. Trying to bring out any reflections in the water as you darken. You are learning quickly about subjective questions in mono, try an IR shot some time converted to mono and see the shades of color from the crowd that you didn't know were in the color wheel.,,
