That's OK Fujitsu! No problems with the posting but we permit only one image/day in the Critique. If you could let me know which one to keep I'll remove the other and tidy, if that's OK! Oh, and welcome to Pixalo!

Re: Snowdon -

Fujitsu

First of all, an non-official welcome to pixalo.

You will find a wealth of information here from a lot of very talented people. They will help you with a very long, but fruitful, learning curve with photoshop.

People who are much more knowledgeable than I can help you with this image, but in short, it is a bit "flat". That is, the range of tone is in the middle. With the sky, it is a problem, though.

The other issue, photoshop not withstanding, is that the focus of the shot, the far mountain, is centered. It would be much more dynamic if it were in the intersection of the division into thirds. See many tutorials on the rule of thirds here, or google it.

I am sure that people will add a lot more suggestions. So learn, shoot, learn, shoot.

Re: Snowdon -

Nice to see a slightly unusual view of Snowdon! Agree with Skip that maybe the mountain is a little central, both horizontally and vertically - and since you've kindly actioned the Image-edit option, I've taken advantage and offer up this!

Found the large amount of blown highlights in the sky very distracting, so cropped that down. Placed the mountain nearer the LHS. Now there's the cloud 'pointing' to Snowdon and the grass foreground mimics, to an extent, the shape of Snowdon. Hope you like my attempt!

Re: Snowdon -

For me this isn't a picture 'of Snowdon' per se, it is a lanscape scene which happens to include Snowdon. I wouldn't recognise the mountain in it as such.

however, does that mean i don't like it? far from it, it's a well-composed landscape shot and the treatment is good. Yes, the pimp is a clear improvement but in time those things will come fuji if you start using CS2 and get to grips with the basics.

Well done with this one, great start.

Cheers,
Rob

Oh, and If you have ever been to Snowdonia they have a mountain railway, the train Is really small and cramped, not ideal for taking Pictures, believe me, there was about two other people pushing from behind me, All Pictures Of Snowdon were taken from inside a moving Train, I dont think I did to bad considering. Thanks for all your input, will upload a couple more soon, I have a mad cold at the moment, and I am going to jump In bed with an hot drink and a good read and give my brain a rest, Fuzzy head Maybe I should do a book on pictures from moving trains, My heads moving round and round, great forum keep up the good work. back soon Next time I go to Snowdon I,m Walking Up, Next weekend If weather Is not to bad, and believe me, you never know up there, It was in the 70,s ground level, and by the time we got to the peak, It was freezing, and zer visability, oh well, stay tuned, will tell you all about it in a week or so. bye for now.....How do you do them great borders on the edit version of My Image, looks good?

Re: Snowdon -

think on the first pic the sky at the top where it gets real light is a little distracting,. the foreground interest works really nice and general composition I like,.

I tend to try and put the forground object (grass) to one side or another - or at least try to make sure it's not in line with the background object (black mountain) but that's a matter of taste (as are most things!)

just a quick play

Re: Snowdon -

Nice bit of light on the mountainside, so wanted to try and bring that out. Took big chunk of sky away as there was nothing there. Used dodge and burn to bring out the detail a little more - both ground and sky (had to use desaturate sponge on some dodged foreground - maybe not enough?)

Crop, D&B, desaturate - finish with denoise sky, sharpen and border (Image, Canvas size, 30 px, Black)

Love that Markulous, that's much what I was thinking of so won't bother doing it again. It works as a really good image now.

Cheers,
