So I got some studio time
on Saturday, and lacking any other subject, I decided to do some self portraits with the time I had. I used my D70s with a variety of lenses, a novatron pack with one head covered by a 6x4 softbox. I did about 30 or so shots, and so far, this is my favorite. While Im not sure if the crop of the head is techinically "okay", I like it nonetheless.

Re: So I got some studio time
I think that a good portrait should tell you something about the subject, and your shot does just that.
The more cynical might think you have a secret Mohican haircut, or want to be Yul Brynner's double! Seriously, though, I like it, and it does tell us about you. |

Re: So I got some studio time
Love the tones in the shot Jen....very good conversion. Ref crop, people oftne chop the top of a head portrait to try & get the eyes on the imaginary 1/3 line. For your shot , your camera is on that line, so for me is the 1st thing you concentrate on.....which then leads onto yourself. Works for me

Re: So I got some studio time
As Dave says, a good tonal range - I'd be tempted to crop out the LHS and bottom (pretty much putting elbow into the corner), making it less central in composition. Tightens it all up and makes the most of the nice lighting
