Well just bought the 50mm 1.8 lens thought i would give it a go. completly new to digital,, through this scene together in a momment of madness really wanted to acheive something that i could frame , what could i do to improve the shot? any suggestion, as i said have'nt got a clue

Replaced the url tags with img ones to display the image in the thread.

The exposure looks good with no loss of detail in the highlights, but I don't like the way the flower on the left is cut off. Perhaps a landscape orientation would have been better.

I agree with Graham, the crop on the left is unnecessary. I think the whole image is about 0.5 to 1 stop too dark, I'd give it a lift with the curves tool if you have PS or similar.

The colour of the BG is not what I would have chosen as it is almost the same colour as the heads of the pistils. Although most of them are against the white petals, two are against the BG and are getting lost.

Have another go at this Bain and see what else you can come up with, I am sure you'll have a framer very soon! Remember to think about the foreground and background and the orientation as well as the main subject itself

i took this at the same time ,i agree with your points as to the BG, not so good. i think i need to take a little more care over the photo next time but new camera still playing

Much better composition (tut tut for cropping the bottom stone!) but it does seem a bit dark still. I winder whether you have got your monitor set a bit light so you're seeing it lighter than it really is (mine could be too dark but I have got it calibrated so don't think so).

Definitely huge improvement over the previous pic, well done

I like the second version. The top of the photo could be cropped and a shame that the bottom stone is not completely on this photo. And it needs a little touch with the curves tool.

I like the idea with the lily's and the stones though

Much improved. Just the few touches already mentioned needed now. I aslo see this a dark on my monitor.

thanks for your help haven't got time yet but will check out the monitor of mine it is old so maybe out to the playing fields with it soon [ i don't mean dump it you understand } might take it to work for a WEEE Though
