what should I have done different?

I would have cloned out the two dark bits in the bottom left quadrant or composed to miss them. The next bit is tricky - the bottom half of the shot seems fairly well focused and is reasonable sharp, however the top half is out of focus.

You may well have meant to achieve this for DoF but I keep feeling that the rollers should either be in focus as well or use a longer shutter speed to achieve a silky finish to the water. Not sure if I have explained myself adequately. TFS.

thanks for the comments, I see what you mean about the black bits, I should have cropped abit tighter, I was trying to get the rule 3 right and didn`t take any notice of them bit Doh.
Unfortunatly i didn`t have a tripod with me to use a longer shutter speed and like you say the rollers would look better in focus, or even more out of focus.

I like this Pete. I agree with Stepheno about the black bits, I think I'd have removed the bit on the right too. But generally, the shot "feels" right. It makes me want to go down to the beach and take some more pics.

Where is it by the way?
