Stonehenge

Ok, a shot of the most famous bunch of rocks in a field in the UK. Always amazes me that people flock from all over to see this heap of stones but there we go. For years the guides have regaled people with stories of how the stone is only found in Wales and how they got it from there to Wiltshire is a mystery. Then a few years ago they discovered a rocky outcrop of exactly the same rock.... just 15 miles away. Not quite such a mystery so they don't shout about it too much LOL.

Oh well, gives the white-frocks a place to dance around looking silly twice a year

Re: Stonehenge

It was taken in the 'golden period' of the day which is why it has a yellowish appearance.... the green is the grass! Just kidding Juan, honest :o)

Come over and visit it sometime, but be warned, it isn't nearly as impressive when you see it in real life. Most people are shocked at how small it is, expecting it to be a huge stone circle. Actually you can walk right round it in one minute flat.

Still, worth seeing just because :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Stonehenge

I know what you mean juan, but actually it was taken at that time of day deliberately to give it that golden warmth. The cold grey stones is not what I wanted the image of. I even drove back out from Salisbury just to grab this shot a couple of hours later than my visit, just to get this lighting :o)

Cheers for showing what you meant though. Do you see what I mean that if you look at your pimp shot, the stones feel cold against the warmth of the land.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Stonehenge

Well the rocks are from Sarsen Stones, which are spread all over Salisbury Plain, however the blue stone is from Pricilli mountains in Wales and they have been matched to a Quarry there. They are not impressive I still believe they are constructed much later than believed and could just be a folly. The real stone circle to see is Avebury, which is some 6,000 years older than Stonehenge. This is massive and also has an avenue of stones and is near the Kennet Longbarrow.

I am new to this and would post some photos, only don't know how to do it, not even sure what a URL is?

And not helped by the lorries thundering past on the A303 just 50 yards away on one side and another main road within 30 yards on the other side!! That does take away some of the mysterious feel to the place!

Lovely shot though Rob

Thanks Mellowduck. Actually the blue stone has now been found a lot closer than Wales, that's what i was referring to.

Anyway, to your other issue about posting:
  • If you click on MEMBERS GALLERY you will then see a couple of lines down on the window that appears, a line of links:
  • My Photos . My Albums . My Favourites and on the right hand side more links....
  • Home . Search . Profile and.... UPLOAD PHOTOS.
  • If you click on that, you can then browse for the pictures on your computer that you want to upload into your personal gallery space and upload them.
  • Now, if you click on any of your pictures you will see the picture at the size it is displayed and underneath there is a line of text called the UBB Code. It starts with [IMG...
  • Just hit the button 'Copy to Clipboard' and then when you are posting a message and want to put the picture in, just paste that code in. To you it will appear as the text/link, but when you hit SUBMIT it will show the picture in all its glory :o)
Hope that gets you started. If you need help with resizing your pictures, there is a tutorial for doing this using Photoshop here: Cheers,
Rob

Re: Stonehenge

Both images say something different, as you both agreed.

I thought that Stonehenge was roped off to keep people from touching the stones and wearing them down over millions of years.

dont get me wrong rob , but I would have tried to make the stones stand out more but you chosed to show the Warmth , thats what makes photography great different views and opinions , to me stones are cold by nature so to try to show the warmth in them just makes them part of the picture ..i would have tried to make them The Picture...good shot anyway keep it up
