Stookies.

I originally posted some pictures of the cornfield beside my house. I have selected this one image and made a few slight alterations, I have tried to create a triangular composition starting at the front and the corn leading out into a triangle with the two round bales in the BG. I then converted into B&W giving a very slight warm tone.
I would be interested in comments on what I have done and which is preferable colour or B&W. Or even if you don't like either.
Colin.

Re: Stookies.

I like both, the warm B&W is very good. All I can say is I feel you needed to lower your camera lower straight on so the top of the sheve is still clear. Even lower moved to the side so you might see the round bales is appealing to me. Maybe it's because it would make the corn more large in the front with that good looking background more as a background.

Re: Stookies.

I also like both, but for me the front Stookie is lost a bit against the field. Boofer's suggestion will likely resolve this, but at the cost of loosing the formation of the others.

Re: Stookies.

i can honestly see what you were trying to achieve i think if you had achieved it it would have worked wonderfully but the stookie in font is just not going to work, as said moving to a different angle may achieve your goal but you will loose the triangle,As for the colour or warm tone i don't think either works for me but a lot could be done on the B/W with some contrast grading in PS to highlight some lovely textures in the corn stubs and the stookies

Re: Stookies.

I prefer the colour. I also would agree with comments above. Also getting the farmer to level the field would help...looks a bit leaning. Think the low down would solve this.

Re: Stookies.

Thanks all for your comments and I have taken your thoughts on board. There is nothing more I can do now as they are all gone, the field has been ploughed and next years seed sown. Also at my age I can't do getting down low anymore. My job now is to switch on the bird scarcer in the morning and turn it off in the evening it gives a bang like a shotgun every 30 minutes to keep the crows away. The man who does the corn lives a bit of a distance away so I do it for him.

Hi Colin, good story about the crows, I have been trying to get a good picture of a crow for years, I have already saved hard to find raw peanuts that attract crows and woodpeckers. When getting down low I can only get up on one leg, the other won't push upward. Because of this slow positioning I use a little round rug, pick a good spot and spend some time there. I use the rug to put my cameras on and that frees up my hands. I look like a three legged goofball getting up. But like you I keep trying.

The colour image is stronger for me

at the risk of carrying something extra, I have a small 3 legged camp stool helps to get much lower without having to sit on the ground

Hello Willow, I was talking to chrisa about rounding out my IR kit, 3 camers. Anyway my wife found the one for me that chrisa had mentioned cause it rated 450 lbs. your right, mine is light and I had used it and it is a joy. Now she has her own when I didn't fall on my head, so we enjoy the extra sercurity good quality brings. I used to be afraid of these but they have made great improvements. Little comments like yours are so helpful and have really proven their wealth. But Ya know, we are on Colins thread and it is a spot to find use because we Know Colin, a straight Ace when it comes to being safe in our passions. .

Hi Colin,,, I got the 65cm in highth ,the tallest, they go lower and made from Aluminum in Sweden. I found less costlier ones but this is a tough one.

It's called Walkstool at Meet Walkstool - The stool that walks | Walkstool. Good luck.
