Studio head shot
Here's a shot I created inspired by a recent shoot of Natalie Portman (used in the Sunday Times magazine)
![]() It's a 4 light setup using 2 coloured gels, a soft key light and hard light for the white background The processing was a midnight filter effect (making the shadows darker and slightly green) and a tweak of curves to get the tones i wanted to stand out. I would love to hear people's thoughts.

Re: Studio head shot
I have to say I'm not keen on that colour, it has a bit of a corpse feel about it.
Loks a bit soft and unreal, but maybe that is the effect you are after, as I've not seen the original you are trying to recreate. |

Re: Studio head shot
Must agree with Whipspeed about the colours, but otherwise I like it.

Re: Studio head shot
I like it. I agree that the green is not the best colour but overall I think it works. As usual it is the eyes for me, they are great and they make the image.

Re: Studio head shot
The more i look at it, the more i agree that the green doesn't help..

Re: Studio head shot
Think I prefer the second for the light (the subtler filters, the high(er) key and the softer expression) but that's not to dismiss the first - a combo of the intense gaze and your capture of it work well
You might want to clone out the part strap in LHS second |

Re: Studio head shot
second one is much better - mostly because it's sharp on eyes. first one has better light and shadows but it's not sharp where is suppost to be as a portrait. but i'm not a portrait specialist.
