Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Taken from the weekends Studio shoot with Cheltenham Camera Club. Embarassed to say I forgot the lovely models name, but here is one of the shots anyway. Do you feel it's a pose potential clients in future may like ?
![]() Shot with natural window light, with low level fill in studio flash. Would larger catchlights work better ? |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Yes I think larger catchlights would be better, and in a different place, but I think the pose is good, and it would actually make a great stock image. Might have left a little more space on the RHS.

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Think it works well as is but I want to chop the top off to square it up

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Like the pose, I would perhaps like it squared up with more space on the right hand side.

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Nice crop and wonderful face! The format looks fine to me but the only niggle is that the fingers of the hand are so 'tight' (because the weight of her head is actually on the hand), a slight bend in the fingers would have 'relaxed' the hand a bit and made it gentler. This attention to detail comes with practice and I know this is a relatively new field for you (isn't it?) so just something to watch for next time.
The BW treatment is really nice, and yes maybe a bigger catch light in the eye since at present it is neither one thing nor another. Cheers Les |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Hi Dave,
An interesting club experiment but not much more. There's very little to hold one's attention for long. Look into her eye and there's no where to go after that. I hope you find this honest comment helpful. ![]() |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
i like this, i would be tempted to crop the top down to where her hairline starts...... catchlights i think they are fine to be honest although perhaps just a little high in the eye.
super shot and what a pretty girl! Fi |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Personally I think it just lacks a frame.
My eye can't differentiate between my screen background and the white area of the picture. The pose is OK though. |

OK, so if I change the forum colour scheme to black, I can see where you were going with this.

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Tx for the comments. I did try wider crop but found the elbow too dominating in shot. One to play with I think

![]() I tried my normal frame style & it looked so wrong. Fine art choosing the right frame for this kind of shot I find. If anyone wants to post a frame they think works, please carry on ![]()

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
I love the lighting here Dave and far from the eye being the only point of interest, I find myself looking all around and imagining what the whole face looks like. I'd like just a touch more light on her hair to lift that dark area but the lovely skintones and beautifully sharp focusing with a subtle blurring at the back works nicely. I can't say whether other clients would like it but I think some would so it's definitely worth keeping in your portfolio to show as an option.
Lovely stuff, Rob |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Sorry Markulous, I still prefer the original crop. The frame created by the hair line first going up to a 'point' and then falling down again frames the face for me.
I agree that the catch light in the eye needed work but I think your centre position doesn't fit with the direction of the lighting. A position above and to the left of centre, as we look at the image, would be more logical to suggest 45 degree lighting, which is what this has. Just nit-picking but might be useful info to other folks. Cheers Les |

Re: Studio Shoot - Does this pose work ?
Nit-pick away, Les!
Always useful and now see what you mean re. catchlight - and whilst don't disagree with you on the hair/point/frame, I find there's just too much unrelieved black (as well as much preferring the eye off 50:50 - but that's just my personal preference) |
