Re: summerhouse
What is Orton Technique?
I am not fond of this, Fi. There are too many highlights and shadows and not enough midtones. On my screen, which is admittedly dark, I can't see much of the house at all. Finally, for me there is nothing to make me interested. No EMOTIONAL attachment for me. Perhaps I am in my Bah, humbug stage. skip |

Re: summerhouse
No Fi my opinion doesn't mean it's wrong as I'm no expert so it may well work for others

Re: summerhouse
am wondering what you wanted from the orton technique in regards to which area or areas of your image did you want to have a certain effect on and why? hope this makes sense
I think what iam asking is why did you choose this particular image for Orton and what did you aim to achieve from using Orton?I think your first flower was a great example of how this technique can benefit, as i thought the first flower was fantastic. Personal opinion on 2nd one , for me it was too blurred for me. Thanks Fiona for mentioning this technique, As i hadnt heard of this technique before , am interested to learn bit more about it, and am about to have a go at it. ![]()

Re: summerhouse
the instructions on that site DO NOT work on the adobe ps cs3 am still searching around for relevant site .Have been directed to a site called fotofushion ,so am in process of nutting it out .There would be a way around it ,has to do with just blending the 2 together.Any help most appreciated ...will let you know how i get on.Sorry fi ,as this isnt really regarding your image , but as to do with technique thought would just let you know that ,following those steps via the link you gave is from what i get from another photography forum site ,its only for ps1 ,again thats just from others that have also tried. no luck Last edited by chickadee : 30-04-2007 at 13:35. |

Re: summerhouse
i loved the romantic setting of the little summer house, and i want to try to give it an ethereal look cos i liked the play of the bright sunlight and shadows...... I have to admit i like this more every time i look at it, i realise that its not to everyones taste but hey thats life!

Re: summerhouse
Not sure why this is called 'Orton technique' as it just looks to me like a fairly typical PS experiment:
Duplicate layer, blur the top layer, use Multiply blending mode. The method described on the site was a cack-handed way of achieving the same result except it took 15 lines to say what I just said in 10 words! Why it suggests all that duplicating of pictures and moving one over the other and all that baffles me. What does he think the Layers tool is there for? Back to the image I should be talking about (sorry Fi!) it doesn't do much for me only because I can see the trees (the effect on the leaves is very much a taste thing but too painterly for me) but I can hardly see the summerhouse at all as it is all in shadow. I think this method is fun to use but it does need the right picture and I am not sure this one is it. After all, if you have a little play with curves to lift the lighting on the house and then play with the artistic filters in PS, you'll come up with lots of similar ideas Fi. Worth a play if you want to, always in favour of a bit of experimenting ![]() Cheers, Rob
