i am gonna disagree cos i can see enough detail to know its not floating. i kinda like this so im saying NO its not too dark! lol

Floating or not, that's a big wadge of black along the base. Trim that off and I don't mind the dark!

Hmmm ... not too dark, but sort of disjointed from the greenery .... if it was a person, you'd say looking out of the shot .... wonder if it would work with a kinda pano crop????

I am beginning to beleave in a vast void in displays, some show a dynamic range giving you the freedom to move towards the darker side, and some that just don't show the extra detail. Their is a little detail that dosen't show up here on my standard lcd screen at work. But was there when I created it. What does that say in terms of group critique, would we all need an equal viewing screen? It is dark I'll give you that.

I have a picture in the Abstract section, called walkway to the clouds that shows what I am talking about. There is benchs and detail around the base of the arch that dosen't really show up on standard LCD's. I think maybe Fi's dark pictures have been seen the same way, she seee's them as just dark enough and then some see them as to dark with no detail. The screen say's all. Maybe just sending pictures that don't push the edge of dark and light should be posted ?

Ok, after another look ... Although it is rather dark which adds drama, which is an unusual approach to a flower shot, I do like it I think mainly because purple is my favourite colour I don't think there's anything you could do to improve this particular shot, I think you've got the best composition, angle etc. It's only the lighting in this one which makes this an unconventional flower shot, but not an unpleasant one
