I like it a lot. Only comment would be the out-of-focus pendant which I find a bit distracting. But either way I would be happy to have taken a shot like that.

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

my least favorite part of photography is the post processing i try but i lack the patience and skill for it ,i suppose this is why i use lightroom it all seem so quick and easy so there are no secrets on how i achieved this style muscle750 so i cant enlighten how i achieved the shot except to say that i used curves in LR2 and increased the exposure well above where it should be i then increase the dark areas, all hit and miss really

thanks for your comments Larne your right the pendant is out of focus i did that on purpose thinking it would increase the sharpness into the eyes or in other words trying to lead the viewer to concentrate on the eyes and face .. looks like it had the opposite effect...live and learn

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

I think you have nailed this one

Only thing I'd suggest - and it is by no means anything other than something to compare to your original - is to reduce the darkness in the blacks, especially in the eyes. I think that they are just slightly out of balance with the rest of the image.

thanks Dabs i just had a play at the darks around the eyes it did improve the shot in that area, but i seemed to loose out in the structure of the hair and background, i suppose this is where photoshop comes into play.and my lack of skill and patience kicks me again....

Duplicate the layer and then select the eyes. Then you can have a play and if it is no good, just bin the layer and try again. Alternatively, just dupe the layer and then just dodge the eyes.

I'll be doing some work on the desktop later, so if I have time I'll have a go.

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

Not turned out quite as I'd hoped, but here is one with lighter eyes.

Tried to do it with levels first, but the Low res image just went too blocky, so this is with just a simple dodge to the eys and a touch of burn to the left eyebrow as viewed.

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

have to say i like the really dark eyes, I lvoe the style my one problem is that because the back of her head is getting absorbed into the white background its giving her a slightly flat headed appearance at the back, i would be tempted just to bring up a tiny bit of detail in the hair at the back to completely separate it frmo the background

by the way, you say CS3 is hard and thats why u use lightroom.......... just goes to show how different we all are. i cannot fathom lightroom AT ALL, i use it for my raw conversion cos its exactly the same as the controls in ACR but other than that i dont have a clue!!! its a complete anathema and not at all intuitive. CS3 is by far easier to work with.
I cant even figure out how to batch process!

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

Thanks Dabs the effect you have achieved here is similar to how i achieved mine but as fiona suggest i seem to lose the hair into the background loosing some depth i will have a play later in CS2

Fiona... the only way i know how to Batch process is to use the Synchronizing settings ..this is a process i don't use because i feel every shot is different for me ..
This is how i would do it if i had to..... select all the shots you wish to batch when selected you will see a grey border around the ones selected.

now select the Sync button on the bottom right panel ..a new dialog box appears which has several setting tick boxs from niose reduction ..tone curve .colour ,spot removel etc .. tick the boxes that you need to be selected ,to all your photos ... then press the sync button .. all the photos selected are now Synchrnized with those setting .
Hope that helps

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

yeah but the synchronising only shows on the photo when u are on that photo if you leave lightroom and come back to it later it looks as if it hasnt been done. its not a majpr problem as i have only had to try it a couple times and that was for TKD shots all being very similar etc but like yourself i tend to look at each image as an individual.

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

i've just had a play concerning your problem.. i selected 1 photo in the group of 5, applied the setting i needed for that shot exposure ,colour, white balance, etc.. to make a point i overdid all the settings in just one shot . i then selected all five to Sync all the setting together.. turned of the computer had a cuppa .. i make crap coffee..... turned on the computer again, into lightroom , all the setting were as i left them..
So i don't think you are doing anything wrong there must be a clich somewhere in set up.. i'll try and figure it out

Re: this is for sure ,,i,m not a portrait photographer

I don't think there is a lot wrong with this shot at all, works fine and I don't think much needs adjusting. I agree the eyes are a tad dark but because of the high key approach, this is working ok. I'd leave it and enjoy the result as it is.

Fi, I made a little tutorial on Batch Processing in Photoshop a while ago. Here is a link to it:

Cheers,
Rob
