Re: Sweet Gus
LOL! "Gus oversees the watering"
![]() Think you really only 'need' the left half - the right doesn't contribute much to the good fun image |

Re: Sweet Gus
Your right. I do have a picture with the right half cropped off. I just didn't put it up here. I was alittle concerned about the two strands of plant going towards his head from the right. People wouldn't know where the heck it was coming from

Re: Sweet Gus
![]() I cropped the picture some--removed alot of the right side. I did leave the two strings of grass--I didn't think they disturbed the picture much. |

Re: Sweet Gus
Strands definitely distract for me - much cleaner without. Though that could be because I was actively looking for them!

Re: Sweet Gus
Ok---the strands have to go.
I can see they are a distraction. I should have just done it in the first place. ![]() |

Re: Sweet Gus
Interesting shot but there are several things that bother me in the cropped pic.
First, I really don't like the thing coming out of the top of his head. It isn't as distracting in the original, though. Secondly, the hose in front of Gus' face is a distracting factor. And thirdly, the railing, which I guess is part of the fence, is a distraction in the cropped image. Maybe the hand is a problem, too. I know it isn't easy to capture a spontaneous image such as this, and the feeling it gives is a good one, but the composition could have been improved. skip |

Re: Sweet Gus
Skipper I like how you looked the picture over. Thanks.
The thing coming out of the top of his head is a chair handle. I agree in the original it isn't as distracting. Probably because there seems to be more space in the larger picture. The railing is a stand with plants on. As for the hose and the hand...my husband was holding it and you know what it can be like telling a man what to do, to set up what a woman wants ![]() A lot could have been improved on this picture--I agree. Gus is my neighbors dog and he was standing on their patio which is just filled with plants which doesn't leave much room for movement. And I was standing on a chair (in my yard) on the other side of the fence. Gus is a 74 lb. Lab puppy that doesn't hold still and is known as the dog from you know where. The composition was very cluttered--which I couldn't do anything about. I did crop it to just the water and the dogs face. I didn't like the blur on the dog so scrapped that one. Again I agree with you 100 percent, but I did get what I wanted to get. The innocence that I see in this dog at times. Which made my neighbors so happy. They framed three pictures and showed them all off at work and to friends. Thank you everyone for all your imput. You all help me so much. I hear your info all the time when I'm out taking pictures. Re: Sweet Gus
Charlotte you are so right and when I saw this picture after I took it it did bother me that his face wasn't in focus to. As it would have made my day. Thanks for the advice in how to do that---

Re: Sweet Gus
I didn't look at this picture critically when I first looked at it, I just tried to enjoy the photo.... and guess what, I did!
Yup, stuff can be done to it but for me the picture draws you into the little story of the dog engaging with the flowers and the water from the sprinkler and I like the hand in it as it supplies human interest and integration with the rest of the image. The picture is actually as much about the man as the dog so it ties together nicely as it is. I'll just stick to enjoying it for the pleasurable picture it is. Everyone has already said as much as needs saying about the technical aspects. Cheers, Rob
