Teesdale

Went up and around Teesdale and High Force again yesterday trying to improve on some of the shots i'd taken before. This time armed with the polariser and uv filters. Got a few shots that i'm happy with this being one of them.

Ken.

That's a striking shot . The sky's got a surreal look to it and I really like the colour saturation.

Being a Durham man myself I really appreciate that shot - as Adrian says, superb sky. Did you get any of High Force? Although it wont be in full force at this time of year.

This is a beautiful scene that you have framed perfectly having many different layers and the trusty building falling almost on the bottom third to make the picture work. The sky, with its clouds has also toped it off great but it’s also the sky that is causing me just a little worry. To me it looks ever so slightly over processed and maybe a bit to saturated? It could well be how it was but it’s still not quite right for me.

What processing have you done on this picture Ken?

To tell you the truth i can't exactly remember. I don't recall upping the saturation but have been familiarising myself with selective colour and adjusting the levels rather than auto levels and brightness and contrast. The problem you have with the sky I think, is the fact that it is a multiple exposure once again, familiarising myself with the auto bracket on the camera also and then processing the 3 images. Because of which any movement in the lighter clouds makes for a strange and or unusual looking sky, this was not my intention but a learning process. It could also be all or part to do with my lack of photoshop talent and not knowing when to stop. :naughty:
Thanks for the comments once again,
Ken.
PS. It was also resized and sharpened using the actions downloaded from this site.

Now i know everyone is going to laugh at me when i tell you another possible reason the sky looks the way it does. I was reading through this post http://www.thephotographyforums.com/...ead.php?t=2695 about filters and places to buy and

Well i knew it was a circular filter and that it turned but, thought it was something to do with the turning of the focus piece...didn't realise it was to alter the effect :icon_redf So it is very likely that the polariser was in between full and little effects.
Well you learn something new every day!!

Ken if you have a pair of polarizing sunglasses go and get 'em. The lenses are rotated for maximum glare reduction before they're put in the frames. If you hold the specs out in front of you and rotate them through 90 degs or so while looking through them, you'll see glare visibly increasing. It's exactly the same principle as your filter except the specs lenses are in a fixed position in normal useage.

Also if you are shooting in raw, you can process the file as many ways as you choose and then overlay them afterwards, you will still get exactly the same layout and no ghosting that way.

It may or may not help??

No! No! CT. can't afford sunglasses let alone polarised ones. If it's sunny I squint But yes it is rather obvious now
Thanks for laughing I mean looking.

I've been rummaging through some old bits and pieces of gear and found a circular polarizer I'd forgotten I had which fits my 50mm 1.4. :icon_cool
