Re: Is there a Story Here?
OK Skip, I guess all our friends across the pond are in bed by now.
Story? Yeah, I'd have to say that her expression suggests a certain wistfulness perhaps brought on by that chance meeting this afternoon of a old but not forgotten boyfriend. Either that or she is asking herself why she's sticking to this vinyl couch and resting her face on a stuffed animal that smells like the dog just dragged it in while some old guy is taking her picture. Just kidding.Actually, I think you chose the right shot to ask this question. Of all the model shots we have seen recently, Julie has that look that does make you wonder what she's thinking. As for the CnC..... There sure seems to be a lot of hot spots on her face, elbow, clothing and most distractingly on the couch. Net-net doesn't seem to be a glamor shot and it certainly doesn't flatter her in any way. Would be interesting to see what someone could do with this to ease the glare and provide some overall softness. - Paul |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
Thanks Paul
That is part of the fun of this site. We get up in the morning to the comments from the other guys, and then about 1pm or so, when everyone there gets off work, we start getting more input, which tails off about 8pm. I love the time difference. I was not happy with the highlights, particularly on her dress, but couldn't really make it a lot better. This was actually not meant to be a glamour shot but a nitty/gritty one. However, from a technical standpoint, I am sure it needs help. So, help. skip And what do you mean, "old guy"?

Re: Is there a Story Here?
Skip..you really did capture that look in her face that says..."I just went out with my boyfriend and I didnt invite him in tonight I made him wait ha ha" ... thats wath that smirk in her face tells me ...CnC..well get rid of the hot spots a little bit of dreamy effect and get rid of the sofa background all together it distracts with all those wrinkles, maybe a black background....thats my opinion ...like the shot anyway

Re: Is there a Story Here?
beauutiful emotive image Skip.........the story. she has been let down......when she has been expecting to go out o the town with her boyfriend he let her down .she got all dressed up and ready to go full of excitement and now she is left with her aspirations and a teddy to cuddle into.......
Super shot have to say i prefer the original to the softened version it packs more impact IMO. Fi |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
OK, here's my version:
![]() Got rid of cuddly toy, burned back edges, clothing (which went a bit wrong!) Storyline: went out for the night but it didn't work out (hence the starker treatment) |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
The story line is too obvious. Everyone is right
![]() Good work on the pimp, Mark. You did a lot better on the dress than did I. I think that I would like more of the stuffed animal, though, because that is an integral part of the story. Thanks skip |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
Story line, "what is he thinking about? is what she looks like she's thinking". Pretty eyes.
Then the white tones. I might have opened selective color and hit the mid tones or whites before trying to blend them down abit. also off topic, thanks "nichpr" for the good word about winter awhile back on one of my pix's. We all know who really has it tough for winter, and then there's Florida, alittle windy. My daughter just moved midwest Florida. Back to the picture,,,, people shots are a world to their own. |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
I would have been totally wrong then, my story was completely different and boyfriends never came into it! I saw her enjoying a lazy afternoon/evening watching the telly and wondering whether she could be bothered to get up and change the channel.... probably via searching for the remote which is never around when you need it!
Ah well, what do I know.... at least the good thing about pictures is they can tell a thousand stories ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Is there a Story Here?
Before I had read Rob's post I also had the thought that she was watching a, boring, tele prog (Corry??).
From a technical POV for me the lighting is simply too flat. The skin highlights of course are from her skin perspiration and could have been toned down in situ with face powder (essential for any model shots is matt or semi-matt powder/cream/foundation to smooth the skin and avoid this problem, unless of course you want shinny skin!). The hand is just far too dominant. A rule of thumb is never to have hands flat to camera as they are simply too big. They usually look better side on with the fingers relaxed but not together. It is little details like this that make all the difference to portraits/glamour/fashion shots. In fact, these are the details that separate the experienced from the tyro. As always, remember to learn the rules and then bend 'um, twist 'um and ignore 'um BUT NEVER FORGET 'UM!! |
