Re: They never stop eating ....
I like the second one as well, but I think the tones are too sublte. It seems a bit flat to me.
Also doesn't seem absolutely sharp, but that may be processing artifact. skip |

Re: They never stop eating ....
Absolutely nothing wrong with the compositions at all, well done. The problem for me is that they both seem to have a strong greenish colourcast which is resulting in the flat lighting that Skip mentioned.
I have to say though, it isn't across the whole picture which suiggests that somehow the darkness of the horse is picking up the green from the reflected light of the grass. The white part of the nose is not affected in the 2nd picture nor is the blue of the sky in the first so this is not a problem with the colour phasing as such. I am sure you could reduce or remove this by selecting all the horse and adjusting the colour balance. If I get chance tomorrow (off out to my birthday/new year's party now) I'll see if I can have a play. Cheers, Rob

Re: They never stop eating ....
Sorry Simon, I wasn't aware of your colour differentation problem, that would make this much harder to get right as it is the colours spectrum you struggle with. I have adjusted them a bit but not sure if you will actually see the difference. Others will I think. Hope they are ok.

Re: They never stop eating ....
Can certainly see the difference Rob & this would be an accurate colour for this colour horse. Lovely work.

Re: They never stop eating ....
Here are the same two pictures in mono as you suggested you'd like to see them that way. I used channel mixer and upped the red channel to about 120% while reducing the green channel by about 30% and upping the blue channel about 10%. I further increased the dynamic range using Curves.

Re: They never stop eating ....
I did a Color Range selection as that was the easiest way to separate the horse from the grass. I then made two layers, one of horse, one of the rest.
It was then a simple matter of using the Colour Balance tool (Ctrl+B in PS) where I then increased red, magenta and yellow for the horse to give it back it's lovely chestnut coat and get rid of the blue/green colour cast. Can't say the exact levels as it was more a matter of small adjustments until I got it looking reasonably right. The grass layer I just upped contrast and saturation very slightly. Flattened the image and that is that :o) Cheers, Rob |

Re: They never stop eating ....
i really like these images.. the chestnut certainly benefits from removing the colour cast. one thing i think i would maybe have done is to get down lower ( and maybe have a pocket of pony nuts to get his attention lol)
