They would preach for hours
In the late 1800's, Baptist ministers would climb up on this rock and preach to the assembled faithful for hours. Taken just as the morning sun rose high enough to break through the trees and reach down with its ray of hope.

Re: They would preach for hours
I really like this shot Paul
Love the colours, detail + composition; excellent work here. Of course there is a patch of burnt highlights in the sky, but it does NOT detract in the slightest! Love the rays of light coming thru'. There's a lot of lovely texture here + much interest in the scene. My only neg crit would be that I think it could do with being sharper. Great image, very well done |

Re: They would preach for hours
Very good image.....it's difficult to understand the size of the place till you see the man on the left side...spot on

Re: They would preach for hours
Not much I can add to what has been posted above except I really like it. Can just imagine the Ministers standing on the rock, with sun rays on them. great stuff

Re: They would preach for hours
Charlotte, I did no sharpening to the shot as posted. I have since gone back and applied some USM to it and will say that it looks good.
Thanks - Paul |

Re: They would preach for hours
Hi Paul
From my point of view, the man in the image makes it. I didn't see him at first, and my idea of the image was completely different, and sort of ho-hum. I thought that it was a little clearing with some small rocks. Instead, the grandeur of the place is wonderous. Well done and well composed. I am a bit bothered by the highlights, but it is not an image breaker. The texture of the rocks is superb. Maybe a tad of a push of the black and white points may give it a bit of "pop", but then again, perhaps this image doesn't require that. skip |

Re: They would preach for hours
Good eye Skip. That provided another incremental improvement.
Thanks - Paul |

Re: They would preach for hours
This horseshoe-shaped "cave" is massive; measuring 700 feet from end to end, 100 feet deep from the rear cave wall to its front edge with the rim rising over 100 feet above the stream bed.
Here is the revised image with Charlotte's suggested sharpening and Skip's suggested black and white points pushed. ![]() |

Re: They would preach for hours
That looks great Paul, definitely has more depth to it now
Gonna be a pain tho' + make one more suggestion ... reduce saturation for a more natural looking image. Just my opinion, of course ![]() |
