Re: Tombstones
I like the browns on the monuments, but the grass is a little too burned out, highlights, other wise interesting picture, different angles we haven't seen?

Re: Tombstones
Thanks for pointing out the blown grass Boofers, don't know why I didn't fix that
![]() I do have another shot taken from further back, with the church in the BG, but I wanted a close-up on the tombstones here, to emphasise their age, their grandeur + intricate designs, + also the pattern they made from this angle. |

Re: Tombstones
Looked at this for a long time, trying to decide if I liked it. A qualified yes.
I like the strong diagonals contrasted to the verticals and horizonal lines. Perhaps I would have liked to see more of the stones to get more of a sense of them. The clutter in the upper right is a bit distracting....perhaps a blur might lessen the effect. Finally, I wonder how this would look in mono....you, too, could be Fi ![]() See, there is a smiley ![]() skip |

Re: Tombstones
A somber and evocative shot. Yet the bright sun on the grass somehow gives me a sense of hope.............

Re: Tombstones
I have to say I agree with Paul. The bright areas are not actually burnt out, not on my monitor anyway, as I can see plenty of detail in the grass and flowers in those bright areas, and the overall sense of optimism they engender in a sad moment gives us more of a story.
I think this image works well, perhaps a tad too tightly cropped at the top and the stones are not as sharp as they could be but this is very likely the compression factor, and it shows an entirely different aspect of tombs than we see in Fiona's shots so it's good to see a different aspect portrayed. Cheers, Rob

Re: Tombstones
Thanks Paul + Rob for comments. Actually Rob, I did the close crop on PC, to cut out areas which I felt did not contribute to the image + would distract from the tombstones, i.e. thick green foliage in the BG (top of image) + the area beyond the RHS which was not pertinent to the tombstones which are the main focus (well nearly in focus, you're quite right about the lack of sharpness, which I think is a hand-held thing rather than compression
). The tight crop was also to match the bottom of the frame, i.e. there's no dead space there either, so if there was some at the top it would look unbalanced IMO.Thanks for the feedback all, very useful

Re: Tombstones
Cheers Fiona. There was a tree right there on the left which I cropped out but which also meant losing a bit of that first tombstone
![]() Ok here's my best attempt at mono with this ... be firm but gentle, as mono is WAY out of my comfort zone ![]() ![]() It looks a mess to me, but what do I know about mono ![]() |
