Re: Tooth like.

For starters, I think you picked a great title, it's given us something to relate to, instead of just a big old lump of rock - which, let's face it, is what it is, but you've made it into a very interesting big old lump of rock

The lighting looks a bit patchy in places, as if you've dodged a bit heavily in some areas, like the LHS of the sky - there's sort of a dividing line down centre of the sky which could do with smoothing out a bit - and on the bit in the FG, just left of centre, and again to the left of the main rock, whereas other parts of the image look quite flatly lit.

That would be my only criticism really, otherwise I like this, particularly the composition. I think the conversion is better than I could do

Nice one Shane, I bet there are a few viable variations to this one too

Edit: I can see a bit of a halo around the rock which, although it sets the rock off nicely against the sky (i.e. highlight's the rock's definition) it is a bit noticeable.

I like it, except for the dark corners at the top.

Re: Tooth like.

I like it, though I think it's more of a squashed elephant I'm not much good at conversions, though I love black and white, so if I were to say anything else it would be to maybe have it a bit darker, more shadows maybe? But on the whole I'd ignore me and go with what Charlotte says Thanks for posting.

Re: Tooth like.

Really like what you've got here with the backlighting of the rock but there's a little too much manipulation, so the lighting look wrong and I'd have prefered the rock less central

Think I'd have preferred the original on which to work!

Re: Tooth like.

Welcome to the dark side Shane

Re your shot, well lets put it this way, it's a lot better than my 1st conversions, so you're well on the path to great mono conversions

further hints are :-

- When creating an effect in a layer, do not be afraid to mask back certain parts from the shot below. This allows you to be selective in the application of effects, plus also gives you the control to the "play with the light", making the shot appear as though light has fallen in some parts more than others.
- Always check "levels" to see if you have space to bring the black & white points in, for more punch (if required)
- Most importantly enjoy. Photography is very subjective, so you'll find some people love your form of processing & others will hate it. The only opinion that matters in the end is your own

Thanx for your comments Charlotte they'll come in handy for the next time,, came across this place in Donegal not to far from where i would stay but it would be off the beaten track ab-it to get to but once there there are some fab & weird looking rock formations, this is one place i will definitely be going back to & hopefully for some sunsets to.
