Tower Bridge Silhouette

I thought I'd put this up as I THINK I like it but can't quite decide. I find the fact that it's a very discernible landmark but also has some extras like the crane and so forth very interesting and the sky just gives it a mood that wouldn't exist otherwise.

The sky is genuine but I have incresed the contrast by using a duplicate layer at 50% opacity and using 'Darken' blending mode.

So, go ahead and tell me what you think. Cheers,
Rob

Re: Tower Bridge Silhouette

I love the sky, great clouds and lighting.

For me the image seems a bit too busy to use as a silhouette, the arch at the bottom, the bottom left corner and the gap between the horizontals in the top left break up the strong shape keep drawing my eye.

On the good side I love the crane detail and the way that even in silhouette this is such a recognisable image. I think I'd prefer to see it with some just discernable details in the subject.

Re: Tower Bridge Silhouette

Hi Rob

I don't get a lot of emotional input from this, but that may just be because I am not from the UK.

Agree that the bottom is too busy, and the cranes for me, tend to distract rather than add. I do like the silouhette and the strong diagonal, and I think that this would be a mind-blowing image if all the clutter at the bottom were removed.

Re: Tower Bridge Silhouette

Lots of impact, Rob, but I think I'm with Danpen on maybe wanting to see more details in the shadow areas. You would still have the impact of the structure, but more detail would balance out the busy of the lower part of the picture.

Re: Tower Bridge Silhouette

Thanks for the input guys, I think I pretty much agree with all the points made. The only problem is that if I lift the details back into the shadow areas it becomes even busier. The problem is, this is Tower Bridge which is very ornate in terms of detail and so all of that detail along with the amount going in the sky and the crane and stuff, it felt just too busy.

I do find it intriguing, as much for the fact it gets different responses from different people. I am somwhere middling but I felt the sky was too good to discard it.

Cheers,
Rob
