Re: Tree Silhouete

No question about the work you've done Sawdust, it has been done very well. My only problem is there is not a lot of abiding interest and there is no focal point of attention. But looking at it as an overall image, you have captured it really well with detail right down to the fine twigs so well done

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Tree Silhouete

I agree with Rob, + to expand I think the problem lies with there being two trees of equal weight placed symmetrically, so that they're competing for attention. An odd number would have worked well here, e.g. if you had just one of the main trees in the frame (but not in the centre), or otherwise three of them would have been good too, but two just splits the frame in half. I like the viewpoint you chose, i.e. looking up, so well done for that approach Good attempt at something different, sawdust

Re: Tree Silhouete

I agree with both Rob and Charlottle.

Technically, it is a great image.

But from an artistic or emotional standpoint, it misses a bit. Another reason that it fails tohold interest for long is that all the trees are vertical. There is not a contrasting figure to increase the tension and interest. You need some horizontal lines or branches and truncks going at different angles to create the spark.

Trees are wonderful subjects for cameras. So keep in there with your camera at the ready and look for interesting tree shot.

Re: Tree Silhouete

i agree and disagree with what has been said.............. no there is no focal point, but there is so much going on here that i dont think you need one....... the two trees bring u in and the eye follows in between them... i like this shot. its busy but simple and i can look at it for ages and not feel the need to go else where...... It has emotion and an eeriness about it. it is stark but not empty... the viewer wants to know more.... what more can a picture ask for !

Re: Tree Silhouete

The viewer wants to know more Fiona? What more does the viewer want to know? Sorry, I am really not with you here, I am trying to look at it and see what more I would be wanting to know. I think I'll leave you to look at it for ages and see if you start picturing faces in the branches like some people see faces in clouds

I respectfully disagree as well, Fi. Maybe I need some red wine.

Oh, it is only 11am. Can't do that yet.

Re: Tree Silhouete

Spending it seems half the year with trees like these, I feel alot of people see a place to get away by just looking up to a sleepy sky with empty limbs. That said, I like the leaves at the bottom, a rare group of leaves framed higher off to the side would look great. Saving grace would have been a big old stick filled birds nest. I like the two black inward trunks of foreground, "the entrance" to thought.
