Tulip Photo
Hi... I'm new to using a DSLR camera (Canon 40D) and after 3 weeks of reading and practicing, I finally got a decent photograph of a flower that I wanted to share....

Re: Tulip Photo
paulstan i'm just smiling because i bought Canon 40D last week. your photo is good, very good. the only thing i would change are colours - when taking photo like this one remember to set white blalance/ligh source manually, you'll see difference. i'm guessing that this one was done using auto and colours are nice but your camera could do it better.

Re: Tulip Photo
Hi
![]() Would echo marcins comments about the white balance. Another alternative is to shoot in RAW on AUTO WB and then you can adjust it on your PC, can make a big difference to colours look and feel. Still a great shot with nice sharpness and subject. |

Re: Tulip Photo
Nice shot, I'd do the suggested white balance adjustment, maybe increase the saturation a teeny bit, and possibly up the contrast a little bit too, just to make it pop

Re: Tulip Photo
Very nice shot, agree with JMitchell could do with a bit more saturation.

I shot the tulip in RAW and WB was set at AUTO... Can I adjust the white balance on PhotoShop cs2, Elements 4.0, or Digital Photo Professional? If so how do I go about doing it? |

Re: Tulip Photo
Yes you can:
when you open a RAW file in Photoshop, something called Adobe Camera RAW should open (ACR), and that is where you make all the adjustments to the RAW file before putting it into another format. White balance is the first option on the list... HTH, any more questions, ask away |

Re: Tulip Photo
You've got a 40D....The problem is, that because the 40D is new, they need to update camera raw to work with it's new algorithms. But, because CS2 is old, they only update CS3's camera RAW, and unfortunately there isn't anything you can do apart from upgrade to CS3, or use another third party RAW converter like Capture One... Sorry ![]() EDIT: And that edit is fantastic, much much better, really pops off the page, and there isn't anything I can see wrong with it now |

Re: Tulip Photo
Hi Paulstan,
Like your picture, your 2nd one is better. I have a suggestion, I have found that the 10 20 30 40D cameras are most always a little flat on the color. The default color setting is at 0. Find your camera adjusments for contrast, color and sharpening and adjust color to the max....all my cameras shoot great colors at default but my canons. Now that that is done, it can compete with the others and it looks better then you might think. You can also set in the custom functions,,,I think it is 01, to have it show up in the menu. Remember not to set anything else, just the color,,don 't like it, you can set it back. |
