Re: Twisted Hazel
One thing that really makes closeup shots like this pop is contrast between the subject and the background. Unfortunately, the colors of the petals/leaves and the bg are similar and there is little contrast to make them stand out. I like the detail you were able to capture in the petals or leaves - that isn't easy with such dark subjects.

Re: Twisted Hazel
What Paul said. Too bad that there isn't enough difference between subject and bg.

Re: Twisted Hazel
I found the exact same thing - too little contrast between the subject and background at home, so I thought I'd wait and have a look with my work monitor, and now the image is trasformed! That might not say much for my work monitor, but it sure has brought this image to life.
Going back to the actual picture, The dark shape in the top LH corner is a little distracting and maybe if it were more subdued or removed it would improve things. I'm not so sure about the composition with the stalk coming in from the side, but other than that is looks good.

Re: Twisted Hazel
I love dark pic's and would suggest that maybe you should have streched the yellow green color in the lower left out a little,,,the two colors on the leaf would look very good painted on a new layer and lightly blended into the black area's, I am at work and can only preach,,,but it looks like a good play to me,,,very nice picture.
![]() you could also add a little white to lighten some of the darker parts,,then again just leave it and I would still like it,,,also like your frame. Last edited by Boofers; 01-06-2007 at 18:24. Reason: Added |

Re: Twisted Hazel
Came Home and your picture looked very good, better then what I have to look at work. But I thought I would show you a color change I thought about anyway. I added a light brownish yellow beside the yellow green and megenta. Did away with the blue.

Re: Twisted Hazel
Thanks for your thoughts on this one. I really like the dark colours and detail in the leaf/head. I do like the lightened version though, i think it makes the image jump out more, so thanks for that too.

Re: Twisted Hazel
I think this picture needs to be razor sharp to pull it forward from the blurred background but on here it is too soft. Given that it is only 49kbs, it could be that it is too heavily compressed so we are losing the sharp detail.
