Unbuilt!
This image was taken a month or two back now, it is on my frequent drive between the town where i live and Granada. It is another area that i find beautiful, but is going to be ruined by the constant building that is occurring in Spain. The Spanish way is to build the infrastructure and then add the houses as an afterthought. No-end of these construction sites are getting halted due to corruption (particularly in the Malaga/Costa del Sol area). It is about time Spain took control of it's country and halted the constant construction, killing natural wildlife and areas of outstanding natural beauty ( i hasten to add i own an old house that was bought off a Spaniard who was moving to a different area completely).
Anyway the image........ ![]() In the background you get the Sierra Nevada, which hosts Europes most southern ski resort with an altitude in excess of 3000m (my town is 1000m up which coming from Lincolnshire where it gets to -8m is something!) Sorry for the babbling, (must be the vino blanco!) Let me know your thoughts! |

Re: Unbuilt!
I was going to say, when i took it i ignored it, but no i find myself coming back to it and it has finally won me over. So much so that i recently sent it to a Spanish publication in the search for commissioned work. Everything i sent them can be seen on a secret page of my web-site INTEGRAL
I've got a feeling it'll not lead anywhere, but worth a shot. It's a magazine based on health and natural vitality and eco stuff.... (though i had to get a translation from my girlfriend so shes probably lying). |

Re: Unbuilt!
I really like this! There's a lot going on in the pic but, somehow, it works! At first glance the lamp posts + the mountains seem incongruous, but having the lamp posts actually lead you right into the mountains is very effective. Not sure if I like the nearest blue padestrian crossing sign being so bold, but I'm thinking about that one. Good viewpoint, providing symmetry but the off-centre placement gives it more interest, i.e. the lamp posts - they're the same, but different. I wouldn't change a thing
PS Just figured out what makes this pic work so well - it's the colours, they all match like a designed colour scheme.

Re: Unbuilt!
This is a study in contrasts.
The man made road and signage v. the mountains. The dark street lamps v the gorgeous pastels The straight lines leading to the mountain v the swervy tire tracks on the road The symetry of the road and signs v the natural mountains. Yes indeed, it all comes together very well in an astonishing picture. The more I look at it the more I see and the better it looks. That publication has to grab this. Good luck. skip |

Re: Unbuilt!
Lolyton, may I take this opportunity to ask you about your avatar - I know it's off topic but it's your thread + your avatar, so thought it a good place to ask
![]() I can't help studying your avatar every time I see it, to try + figure out what it is that I'm looking at, but I am stumped Please put me out of my misery ...What is it?? |

Re: Unbuilt!
Of course charlotte...... It's a shark! I chose it not because i feel it represents my personality, in fact nothing could be further from the truth. The reason i use it is because it is an image i have that i felt works well small because of it's contrast and graphical nature!
Hope that helps, and maybe you can see what it is now! |

Re: Unbuilt!
Thanks for that lolyton. Hmm I can make it into a shark's face if I try real hard, but he looks like he's wearing a hat. Sorry, this is not meant to sound rude or make fun, but maybe it doesn't work as well this small after all ... perhaps you could post a bigger version in your gallery so we can see the pic properly?

Re: Unbuilt!
Isn't that weird, it has never ever occured to me that Loly's avatar was anything other than a shark, I saw it instantly and it surprises me that anyone wouldn't. Guess it proves just how differently we all see things. I guess because I am a former scube diver I am used to seeing marine life in its natural environment and so this is something I would recognise but whatever. I have tried hard to look and see the hat but that must be going over my head.... as indeed a hat is supposed to LOL. Sorry, just can't see it at all.
A shark it has always been and a shark it will remain unless Loly changes it.... which reminds me, time to change my one back from its snowy theme... that was only supposed to be for Christmas LOL. As for the picture, I am like others in that I like it the more I look at it. My only complaint is the lampposts on the right are too close together so make a rather dark band on that side but if you went to the other side of the road it would do the same over there and given the track of the driver who surely MUST have been drinking, I wouldn't suggest standing in the middle to take your shot! This is an intriguing shot and well chosen.... but can we also see some unspoilt shots of the beautiful Nevada mountains? Cheers, Rob
