Re: Veins
I'd prefer all leaf and all in focus so as to maximise the abstract quality.
It's worth thinking about introducing other factors (rule of thirds, diagonals, etc) to hold/engage attention. Having said all that, you've obviously thought about suitable subjects and this looks good! ![]() |

Re: Veins
I quite like the leaf edge and leaf spine making two parallel diagonals - I'm not too fussed about the out of focus parts but think your problem in this image is that OK there are out of focus parts on either side but because the background is also out of focus you've got half as much apparent out of focus area on the left compared to the right.
I wonder if this sticks out to me because the background tones are much colder than the leaf. You could try getting something else of a similar tone, even another leaf to fill that triangle but keep it out of focus which might balance things. Lovely and sharp anyway - I'm intrigued by the way the veins of the leaf look almost like the spirals adhere to the fibonacci ratio - I wonder how much magnification you'd need to focus on just one of those. |

Re: Veins
Wow thanks for the comments guys. I'd love to know the name of this plant, I love the leaves on it. I'll try some more shots of it taking into account what you've both said, thanks very much.
This is another picture from the same set as the one above: ![]() Better I post it here than make another topic for it, think you could give it a shoot? Thanks! |

Re: Veins
A very young Gunnera plant perhaps? The leaf looks wrong but the vein structure reminds me of it.
