Vertical Panorama
This was just an experimental attempt at a vertical panorama of this tree with its reflection. I messed around a lot with colors, mainly through photo filters, and I'm not sure I'm that happy with it. Any thoughts?
![]() Thanks! Kyle |

Re: Vertical Panorama
What does it look like in black and white? And what did you do to colorize the picture?
I like the tree, it looks like it is about to fall in the water. |

Re: Vertical Panorama
The tough thing about winter snow photography is the lack of color and you can't pull out something that isn't there regardless of what filters you use. So, frequently B&W (mono) is the best choice. That said, some folks will get creative and introduce different color effects in Photoshop and that can be a lot of fun.
In this case, I agree with Boofers re the B&W - this could be a striking shot. Have fun with it. - Paul |

Re: Vertical Panorama
I rather like this duotone but I think I would prefer either a paler yellow or a colder blue to give the image more impact. I like the composition of it and there is a big market for prints of this shape as people often have thin spaces in hallways and stairwells that they want pictures for. This would certainly work as a wall-hanging so well done.

Re: Vertical Panorama
I like the picture, it would probably look good in other formats too!
What's more impressive is that you are on the verge of coining a new photographic/painting phrase "Vertical Panorama", very cool. It may go down in history as the kjbkix technique. I wish I'd thought of that! |

Re: Vertical Panorama
Haha thanks soup, I certainly wasn't going for that!
The shot doesn't look all that good in B&W, and believe me I tried to make it work. There was just too much white. This shot was taken on a VERY high contrast day, with the snow multiplying that even more. I think I'll go ahead and post this in the PIMP forum for all of you to mess around with. I'll be happy to take credit for the "Vertical Panorama" phrase though, thanks again Soup!!! |

Re: Vertical Panorama
Don't feel disheartened by not getting the bw conversion you wanted.
If it's any consolation? I was foolish enough to think that pressing the de-saturate button would turn my colour works of art into monochromes, sadly that does not appear to be the case. Anyhoo! if you do crack the colour to monochrome thing? do let me know the secret! |

Re: Vertical Panorama
Sorry kjb, you'll have to become famous for some other strapline, Vertical Panorama has been used for a fair while now, but hey, there are plenty more words waiting to be invented
![]() I think this shot works better as a duotone than it would a mono anyway. The main tree and the background trees are too similar in tone so would merge a bit too much in b/w. The only problem area though is the burnt out bit around the base of the tree. I know it's snow so it gets away with it, just hard to tone it down much. Bet you're gonna come up with some more of this style now ![]() Cheers, Rob
