Views on this one welcome
Simple idea but how well has it been executed in your opinion.

tis well exposed but I think the focus needs to be around the middle as opposed to the brown pencils at the right. Other than that, not a lot wrong with it!

Well This Won the first round of the photo contest here.
Yours does seem a little on the soft side though......try using HB pencils . other than that it's canny.Ken. |

You need to make sure your subjects have clean tips - i.e. recently sharpened. Those little details are very important in this type of shot imo.
Good work though.

The execution looks pretty good to me. I would add though that with shots like these it's the last couple of % that make all the difference between an OK shot and a great one. I think those last few percent here are in the tips of the yellow, orange, red and light blue pencils. The others have nice smooth and even tips which make those four stand out and that breaks the flow a little for me.
On a note of pure personal taste, I think the saturation and contrast could be increased to give more bite and impact. Still lifes can be a great way to lose days of your life though eh... but well worth it as you can get some stunning results from table top stuff. D ![]() ***edit... damn, if I didn't waffle so much I could have hit submit before Joe.

Thanks for the comments. I have had a fiddle with the original and re-uploaded it. It now has a nicer border and I have cloned the bad tips out which makes it a much better picture. I think

Looks good to me too.
For some reason my eye is drawn to the speckles on the white foreground. Also wonder if the colours order are random enough. Its like a rainbow series but with errors. |

Good idea but image looked slightly grainy & a bit flat. Had a quick play adjusting levels, increased saturation & ran through neat image to reduce noise. Not perfect but my take on it anyway

Dave, I prefer the original. Your version looks a little less 'real' and the foreround speckles now look like they are on the surface of my monitor
![]() Maybe the saturation without the neat image ? |

Agree with Robert on that one, the speckles make it over manipulated.
I used the border tutorial on here to make the border ![]() Steve, sorry about the error in posting sizes, I misunderstood the rules for some reason. Had a blonde moment :coat:
