Very nice colours but I don't think the flower is quite sharp. I'm experimenting with macro myself so I know how hard it is to get the focus spot on with the right depth of field.

Yes it's not quite pin sharp, but it's a good closeup, and trying again will only make you better, you shouldn't get it any less sharp now

Re: Waking Up (Rhodedendron)

I thought that the image is sharp or at least as far as I can tell on my screen.

I am less happy with the background. The bright grass is a bit distracting. I tend to take shots like this with the dark rhododendron leaves as the background. They make a better contrast with the flowers. You do have to be careful with your exposure and DOF however. You could try that next time.

Re: Waking Up (Rhodedendron)

As you are trying to improve with macro Ray, may i suggest you start with subjects that have a flatter plain of interest so that you are not fighting the shallow depth of field. A bud like this is quite deep and nigh on impossible to get really sharp unless you shut right down to smallest aperture, use a tripod and so forth.

Have fun practicing and let's see what else you come up with. Good subjects include coins, stamps, leaves, petals, feathers, etc

Cheers,
Rob
