No, the mono isn't a prob though I can't say it looks natural but then I guess it isn't supposed to. Yes it is a bit busy but it doesn't intrude too much because of the said mono.

Have you thought about trying the darker blue as the main base water here and the lighter blue in the lifting area of water? I think that might work quite well. Having said that I like the darker water on the right as it does fit the water's flow here.

Interesting shot, I think I would put your second version of Water 1 as my fave of the two but this is still a good piece of work.
