Water Lily

I took this photo of a water lily while at Kew gardens in London last week. Due to where it was in the pond I used the 70-200L and 1.4x converter on my 20D. this is the first of a couple shots I will be posting into this thread over the next few days and I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for looking.

I agree re the bud on the right.

Would you take it as a compliment if I said it almost looked airbrushed? Nice shot!

Thats a great shot Steve.
The second bud is slightly distracting but not enough to take the attention away from the open flower.

Yes it is an excellent shot Steve, the colours are amazing very pastel. i don't think the bud is too distracting although it does take the eye away from the flower but gives you a visual of the before and after, it gives a reminder of the stages it has to go through.

Yes they are amazing.I have some photos of them as well. I will make a thread with some in if you are interested?

Thanks guys for the comments, the main reason I posted this one was due to the bud at the side. Although it does take a small amount of your attention I thought, like Ken that it showed the stages and didn't distract from the picture but it seems more people think it would have been better without.

Not to worry, thanks again for the comments. 8)

I like it again. love the colours and have had a pond for the past year just sitting waiting to be installed, would love something like these in it (once i get round to starting and finishing it of course). Very pretty.

Both technically superb as usual, Steve, but on a personal level I prefer the first pic, although that bud is distracting, lol!

They're both great shots, just teeny little things in the background. The bud on the first, and the leaf on the 2nd on the left. Take some scissors next time

I think the second image needs more space to the left of the flower.
The background is more distracting in this shot than the first, use of one of your extension tubes may have helped throw that out a bit more to give a much cleaner background.

Its still a nice image though.

I'd tend to agree with that, I think it's the big contrast change in the background foliage, still a nice shot though
