White Tulips, Keukenhof Gdns.

Here is a picture taken in Keukenhof gardens. I was in the camera club circuit at the time and the picture was accepted for three different exhibitions. I can't honestly remember if it got any awards or not, but it might have, just don't know.
It was taken on film and the negative scanned. We got an early train to get to the gardens before the crowds, if you look in the shadows you can see the hoards starting to arrive. I used a tripod, you could carry such things on the plane in those days. Just be interested in any critique, good or bad.
Colin.

Re: White Tulips, Keukenhof Gdns.

Hi Colin I'm no photographer although i pretend to be i cant comment on the merits of the photo but i think i have an opinion on the perspective .i seem to be leaning to the right here, if the idea was to use the white tulips as a lead in line then it's gone wonky a bit , by that i mean it's not central leading to the statue at the end of the tulips and to the frame .
the visitors on the right work really well in the shadows, and the height of the trees works well with the foreground , overall a very nice image but i would be tempted to cut in from the LHS to try and balance the shot a little

Having looked as this one a few times I'm not so concerned about the symmetry, but the white tulips seem kind of over the top - almost as if they were added later. I can't put my finger on it, but they somehow don't seem to fit in correctly in the perspective.

I like it a lot! The light on the tulips is what makes it for me. That sculpture in the background intrigues me too.

Graham, The tulips are more or less are as seen, it was the light on them that caught my eye to take the picture, they really stood out against the shadows, just trying for a different composition. I would not be cleaver enough to add the tulips into the image.

Oy, Glad you like the image and the tulips, I can't remember what the statue was about. Thanks for comments.

I guess it must be a combination of the lens and the low angle that you took it at then Colin.

Re: White Tulips, Keukenhof Gdns.

On closer inspection those Tulips do look odd. The perspective on the white tulips doesn't seem to match the perspective of the rest of the image - or were they on a raised bed - they don't seem to be. Having said that it's a very pleasant image

Jake, Not sure what you mean. The camera was on a tripod level with the top of the tulips. would this explain?

Its an awesome capture specially those tulips are looking really unreal! The lighting as well as the focus on the subject is just perfect.

Thank you Shumi, I was pleased with this image, it did well in a couple of exhibitions. Long time ago now. Originally taken on film and scanned.

HI colin. I think I'd lose some of the left side and treetops to have the tulips centered. that's what is bothering me.. Otherwise it's a very nicely done image.

Loyd, If I cropped the LHS I would lose some of the tulips and the coloured ones in the BG. Maybe a bit off the top of the trees might help but they are part of the whole scene and I like it the way it is, the spring green leaves add to the colour.
Like most of these places you have to contend with crowds of people so we arrived very early and were just about to leave after taking this picture as the crowds were starting to arrive, you can see them in the shadows of the trees.
Thanks for looking and your comment.
