Window glare problem of Southport Lagoon

I really like this shot but I tried a couple of different ways to get rid of the window reflections with out a pleasing result

Tried to dodge and burn the infected area, clone stamped the area, Healed the area

So I like you to have a go and see what you can do for Me.

Hi vk7hil, not sure if you have one or are using one already, but a Polarizing filter should help to cut down the reflections your getting when taking shots through the window, you'll loose about 1 stop worth of light but with the amount of light your probably getting it should be worth it.

Re: Window glare problem of Southport Lagoon

The only problem with using a polariser Iain is that if this was taken from a normal airline, you are forced to look straight through the window and any kind of an angle is nigh on impossible. The reflections are on the outside window and a polariser would not really do much unless you are looking through the window at a decent angle.

Although I know it's not the image you wanted VK but there is actually a very good image there if you crop the reflection area and leave a picture of the island downwards. It's a good image even if not the one you wanted :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Ok, couldn't resist having a go! It is not perfect but hopefully it's better than before. See what you think...

Very true Rob, the reason I mentioned it was because the reflection looks like it is coming from inside the cockpit (at least to me it does ), hence more window space, obviously vk7hil would need to elaborate a bit more about that but either way I feel it a worthwhile (and cost efficient) option to have for this type of photography due to the possible benefit I mentioned aswell as the others a polarizing filter will bring.

I agree Iain, indeed I recommend to everyone with a camera and a filter ring that they should have a C-Pl anyway as it is one of the must-haves being a filter that even PS can't properly replace. It's good to know the computer hasn't completely nullified our entire kit collection

Thanks Rob it looks good, so all I need is the last part of the question. How, what, where, did you do it.

Re: Window glare problem of Southport Lagoon

I didn't do anything particularly clver with it Vk, it was more a question of slowly working away at it to remove as much as possible.

I started by making a feathered selection around the reflection itself, copied it to a new layer and darkened it using Curves. That at least brought it a bit closer to the rest of the picture. Then I just spend a fair while cloning away using a very soft brush and continually changing my source area so that I didn't get a whole lot of repeating patterns. This is unfortunately common when people are trying to clone but don't have much area to source from. You end up seeing the same line of trees three or four times so it's very important to change source as frequently as possible.

It is important to use a very soft brush in order to avoid any tell-tale editing lines. In the case of the rivulets it was difficult to do much other than use a tiny brush and work through them. It is inevitable that a touch of detail will be lost but it is worth it I think.

So, there you go, curves and clone tool is pretty much it, the rest is time and patience. Like I said before, not perfect but definitely an improvement.

Cheers,
Rob

Thank Rob.
It is nice to see that I was on the right track. But just didn't have the patience.
