Re: Woodlands

I think it's lovely Dave!

The only suggestion I have would be to lose a bit of the bank at the bottom of the shot and, if possible, add a bit more of the tree canopy to the top (but that's assuming you've already cropped a bit off the top!!? )

Re: Woodlands

Colour? COLOUR? Ye Gods, man, are you feeling okay?

I like it Dave, it has a dreamlike quality to it although I think it would benefit from lightening the shadows a bit just to bring out a bit more detail, particularly in the foreground.

Re: Woodlands

LOL @ colour.....it actually doesn't look that good in Mono, so thought I'd better give colour a try. Good advice Angela, but this was a full shot so nothing to play with. I'll take it on board for next time

Colin I did lift the highlights only in the foreground & on my decent monitor it looks ok, but on the laptop screen you are right it needs some shadow detail lifting.

The original shot was quite harsh, so duplicated the layer & blurred it quite dramatically with Gaussian blur, then adjusted the opcaity of the layer to try & get that soft glow / dream effect that you picked up on

Re: Woodlands

Really like that dreamy look you have achieved.........I have to be nosey and ask how you did it

I don't find the foreground a problem it looks OK here.

Really like what Fiona has done to the image too ......again be interested to know how that was done

Overall a lovely capture well edited & well presented

Re: Woodlands

channel mixer and set red to -50 green to +200 and blue to -50
you can do it on a duplicatre layer and use the opacity bring back more of the original colour.......... also do the same in the chanel mixer but tick monochrome to give another effect

Re: Woodlands

I'm liking the original and fiona's edit

What might look good would be trying to recreate four different colour edits to represent the four seasons? (managed to get some bargin multi apature frames from wollworths, and now thinking of ways to use them )

Re: Woodlands

I'll leave you to clone out all the leaves for winter then

Might have to pop down to local woolies to look at those frames.

Think I'll have to make a special visit to some decent woodland when Autumn comes & shoot some ......gulp....colour

Re: Woodlands

In this area we have a chain of shops called Wilkinson's. They are brilliant value for frames (and everything else) and they stock all types from the awful clip frames to some very nice sliver/champagne/black,wood/brown etc. in a large variety of sizes. I just bought some cheap black A4 frames for some monos at £2 each. I saw the same frames elsewhere for £5.99!

They have got a web site, but don't know if they sell from it.

Think it needs a little dodge and, since I like Fiona's edit, I offer up the following for your inspection:

Maybe the sharpening was a mistake!
