From the beginning....help

Having just got hold of CS3 and bought a D300 which came with Nikons software which seems to me as if it wants launching over the garden fence.
Anyway the old software that came with my D200 I used to use it to get my pics off the camera now im armed with Capture NX and cs3.
So firstly where do i start as im having trouble getting the pics off and when i do it does not save in "Pictures" .
Plus my CS3 wont open RAW filers off the d300.................so from the top please.
Be gentle its been a long week so far.

Well....if you have a card reader then you can just drag and drop the photos off into a folder of your choosing.
As for opening them in CS3, you might have to download a Camera RAW update, in which case that's not too hard, and it should be fine.
I hope that helps, I tried to keep it short and simple

Re: From the beginning....help

If you are loading Raw files directly from your camera (as I often do), you may need to use the Nikon s/w which comes with the camera. I recently bought a new computer running Vista and downloaded the latest Canon software for my old EOS 20D. The updated S/W runs fine on Vista and has lots more features though I am using very few of them for this simple operation. However, the new computer has a built in card reader which transfers the images at twice the speed. If you have set your CS3 to automatically update (or at least offer you the option), you will find that these updates will take place automatically.

Re: From the beginning....help

You should have got a program called Nikon Transfer with your camera. This is what I use to download my images from my D300.

To get CS3 to open your .NEF files you need to download the Camera Raw plugin although I do recommend at least trying Capture NX as you have more flexibility with your raw processing and is tailored to the Nikon raw format (although Camera Raw is a good alternative).

Re: From the beginning....help

Hi, this relates to the questions I've just been asking, and I'm currently sat here having a play ith Nikon Transfer and View NX, both are free software downloads from Nikon Support, and integrate perfectly with CaptureNX, so why not download them if they didn't come with your camera and have aplay. So far I'm finding it looks really easy to use, and I'm probably way greener than anyonle else posting on here
