Can I Retrieve Original Photo
I Made A Terrible Mistake, While Adjusting A Photo In Corel Paint Shop.
As I Have Only Been Experimenting With This For A Few Days, I Forgot To Make A Duplicate Layer Of A Photo Before Processing It, I Saved The Settings Then Realized I Had Made A Mistake. Is There Anyway I Can Retrieve The Original Photo. |

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
If you saved it back to the same filename, I'd say you're out of luck.

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
I've read somewhere that the latest version of PSP allows non-destructive editing. Presumably it stores changes in a sidecar file like most of the RAW converters.

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
my advice is to try doing lose-less editing where you make all your changes on different layers, there fore if you do make a mistake you original is still there. and it is a lot easier to see your changes. i know that photoshop allows this and so does PSP, but i'm not sure about corel. also aperture has a feature where no matter what changes you make it has a automatic original file..

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
This Was The Mistake I Made With Corel, As I Wasn't Used To It, I Forgot To
Make Duplicate Layers Before I Made The Changes, Then I Saved The Changes With Out Thinking. I Then Realized I Had Made A Mistake, By Then I Could Not Rectify It. Luckily I Had It On Back - Up Disc. I Normally Use Elements 5 , Which I Am Slowly Getting Used To, But Just Thought I Would Try Corel. Still You Learn By Your Mistakes, I Will Be More Careful Next Time. |

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
Speaking as someone who has been known to accidentally click 'Save' when I meant to click 'Save As...', I find one of the main benefits of shooting in RAW is that I can't save over the original.
By generating a TIF/JPG to work on and leaving the RAW intact, I know that I'll only have to generate another one if click the wrong option. ![]() I'm so glad you recovered your file, Woody - I know how frustrating that can be! |

Re: Can I Retrieve Original Photo
Assuming Corel works in much the same way as PS, you wouldn't have been in trouble if you realised you had made a mistake after saving as you can just hit Ctrl+Z to undo the last thing(s) you did. I have my PS set to the max of 50 actions saved in its history so I can drop back a few if needs be. Obviously i work on separate layers as well, indeed I am almost automated in that. I open a photo and press Ctrl+J (duplicate layer0 almost without thinking.
One other point worth reminding PS users and presumably PSP and others are similar; Your history pallet can remember the last however many actions but it can also do two other important things; 1. You can revert back to the 'open' State by going to the very top of the history list. 2. You can set points to go back to so if you take a snapshot at a specific point you know is a good point, you can always revert back to that point even if you have done a lot of work after that point. This is very useful for people with several layers open and whose computer's are a bit lacking in memory as adding more layers adds a lot more to the open file size of the picture, hogging loads of RAM and things. Hope that is of help for future reference even though the current situation is solved Woody. cheers, Rob
