Deer In The Mist

I'm doing a fair bit of image manipulation at present and wondered what thoughts anyone had on this one........good or bad

Love this in principle, P-E. A few things don't agree with me :

The deer is very grainy. Also, he looks stuck on (sorry) (his legs + body are level, but the ground is not). His toning is too close to that of the foliage. I don't think he needs to be there at all; maybe if it were landscape format, he wouldn't look so squashed in there.
The waterfall looks bleached out.
The FG water has posterized (if that's the correct term), i.e. I can see bands of colour that are not graduated nor blending together smoothly.
The fade to the top edge is too sudden for my taste + too bright at the top. A more subtle fading with still some colour at the very top would look better IMO.

There are things I really like about this image :
Love the colour/tone
And the rocks
And the composition

It's very artistic, + I think you have something here, but with a few adjustments mebbe

I can see what you were trying to do here Ian, but I also find the 'mist' unconvincing. As charlotte has said, the basic image is OK, it is the processing that has not drawn the best from the picture.

I guess you could argue that the deer's toning is like the foliage for camouflage purposes! I find the deer less of a problem than the overall feel of the image.

The deer would look good as part of the background and not part of the waterfall. Sheepishly pearing out of the mist. You gave up to easy on this one, but then digital is free for now!

Yes I gave up on this one Boofers but plenty more in my head......just got to bring them altogether better in CS.

Sorry to sound negative but for me it's to over done it's more like a picture than a photograph. Having said that good on you for trying something different it's never easy.
