Ok i recently took some photos of a works footy match and i'm about to print them, my problem is this my monitor isn't calibrated and displays differently to what my printer produces (prints tend to be too dark) now is there a way of batch processing the pics in CS3 to lighten all the shots to compensate for this dark printing i have 24 shots open in PS but cant seem to find how to do it

any help much appreciated

Another can of worms!

Modern monitors (additive RGB) are inclined to have a contrast ratio way higher than a print (subtractive CMYK and relying on reflected light). In other words, the monitor's white is much brighter than you would normally get by looking at at white piece of paper under normal (indoor) lighting. Turning down the monitor contrast (white point) is often necessary to produce comparable results.

That doesn't help you - sorry. I'd suggest using QImage for printing, and you can set batch defaults, but there is a learning curve.

Alternatively, rather than adjusting the images in PS, you should be able to alter the settings in your printer driver to increase the brightness. Look at Print > Properties and there will be a load of values you can adjust, depending on your printer.

That's just a quick fix, but it may get you there for now.

I would suggest what I did,
I went to my printers website and downloaded their printer color profiles and used that.
If you don't want to do that, correct one making an Action and use that for the rest.

another easy calibration tippet, well its free worked for me and I'm selling prints and get no issues with mismatching....

Grab a DVD which has a dolby calibration menu. I think Pirates of the Caribean has one under setup... play the DVD in the PC then from the settup menu or whatever option it is for display/audio there is sometimes a dolby calibration option. This was done on both the deskop (old style LCD) and laptop (new style gloss/brilliant white) style LCD

Run that and the screen should be fairly close. It is worth trying this if you dont want to use printer profiles (I use the shipped ones)... another thing to consider is a lot of printers dump too much ink or dye onto the paper if you select the high quality gloss option, this results in dark print outs.

Some good advice there - but I would echo Silkstone's advice about sorting the printer driver rather than changing the image files.

My Canon even has an option for darker/lighter!

I've also got my set up for PS to control the printer - but you need to switch off the 'printer controls the colour' option in the driver. If you don't, it will ignore your adjustments in PS.

once you load a profile fotospeed etc, make sure in print profile that you choose adobe and NOT the printer to manage your colour printing, in truth unless you are using Hahnemuhle or similar paper with profile you wont see proper results, epson profile etc are inacurate, the only way is to buy a printer profiler and do your own, its worth having your monitor profiled too, many people make the mistake, but monitor and printer profiling are two very different processes
