Re: how do you resize
I resize to 800px @ 200k and usually get 55-80% of the detail, so I'd recommend 800px (along longest side)

Re: how do you resize
Also use Bicubic Sharper for the resize algorithm as it is better suited to reducing picture size.

Re: how do you resize
Thanks for the replies, there was something wrong with elements/Could only resize to maximum of 250-300 along the longest side and keep within 200kb, luckily it`s sorted itself out (well nearly). When I resize with elements to the file size of 200kb then save
the saved file is only around 74 -90 kb, is this normal with elements? It`s driving me crazy ![]() |

Re: how do you resize
Are you setting the DPI to around 72 before you set the longest size to 800?
Have you seen this tutorial? It is for PS, not Elements, but I think it is much the same. |

Re: how do you resize
Yes setting dpi to 72, at the moment have to resize check saved image file size then go back to editing and resize do again and again until I get the right file size
![]() must be doing something wrong but don`t know what has to be easier than this think I`m going mad![]() |

Re: how do you resize
When I 'save as' a jpeg, there is a dialogue box that appears just before the image is saved where you can set the level of compression. Depending on the image, I can set between 8 out of 12 up to the least compression of 12. I average about 9 or 10 for most images.
If you have a 'save for web' option in the file menu, you go to another window with various options, and you can see the size of the saved file displayed. When I re-size to 72 dpi and 800 pixels, when I OK it the image shrinks to the size of a thumbnail, and it is this image that I save. To keep reasonable quality you should be aiming at 7 -8 in the jpeg compression (or above)

Re: how do you resize
If you like, I'll PM you my e-mail address and you can send me a full size file and I'll try to re-size it. If I succeed I'll note each stage so you can try it on the same image.

Re: how do you resize
I presume Elements is similar to CS3 so if you want to re-size them for web use go to the Save for Web option under File and do the following:
![]() Step 1: Go to image size Step 2: Re-size to 800 on the longest side and click Apply Step 3: Adjust until the image is just under 160kb. Once this has done upload to your hosting site (or your gallery on here and use the function to display your image in a post. ![]() Hope this helps.
