need help please - photoshop guru's?
took this pic last night for my g/f's sons 21's party, but the washing line is a big distraction and as you might tell, it needs some expert photoshop use to get rid of it without distorting the girls' faces, if it isn't possible, i could get pics of the girls on different pics to mask with. let me know what you want....
anyway - here's a preview shot so you can decide wether you want to take on the challenge.. and full size is here..... http://www.wesleybrookes.co.uk/pics/party.JPG all help will be truly appreciated

Wez130, you dont have to be a guru to get an acceptable result. This is my first attempt at this type of thing. I only discovered dodge and burn half way through!! Its not as good as CT's but the only way to learn is to try and then try again
. The bit I struggled with was the mouth on the blonder of the two girls and would appreciate CT's advice on how he got it so much better. Regards Mark |

![]() I don't use dodge or burn at all which just goes to show there's always more than one way to skin the proverbial rabbit. The bulk of this sort of work I do with the clone tool and a PSP retouching tool called PUSH which basically is a smear type tool which just pushes pixels around, but is by far the best behaved tool of it's type that I've ever come across. The lips were done with this latter tool set quite small and with low opacity to gradually remove the dark part from the lips. Another tool you could use for this would be the Colour Replacer, but it would a laborious job, continually changing the tolerance of the tool to get a good result. |

Many thanks for the encouragement and tips. I will try and have another go at the mouth later.
I found that I got the best results on touching up the skin using a combination of dodge, burn, blur and smudge but I expect experience will improve my cloning and simplify the necessary touching up process. |

If you've got any old damaged photos (most of us have) then dig 'em out and get sorting them out. The problem is we don't usually have enough of them. If you let relatives and friends know you're prepared to do this for free, it's one of the best ways of getting experience of this sort of work, but be prepared for some disintegrating horrors, you'll wish you'd never seen. It doesn't matter if you're not charging anyway, if you make a balls up. That's basically how I started out doing this stuff in the first place.

you don't want to see what my mum asked me to restore. I swear to god I thought it was a blank bit of paper but no was a photo that'd been on a window sill for about 30 years. I after an age I found I could make a reasonable B&W out of it but the colours were long gone.
