I don't really, apart from cropping and a bit of balance but sometimes a little more is required - small child with a cold on the beach on a winter's day (you can see where this is heading, can't you?!) so I'd love it if someone could de-snot this child's face for me, and explain how it's done!

A quick and ready effort.



This is a simple use of the Clone tool. It's in the Toolbox and looks like a rubber stamp. If necessary, enlarge the image then click on the Clone Tool. I selected a brush size of 7 then you need to choose an area of skin which is similar to the area you want to cover. With your curser over the skin to be copied hit the Alt key. Move your curser to the snotty area and click. Keep going until you are happy with the result. Don't forget to use the Edit/Step back if you make an error. HTH.

Thanks for the super speedy response What else do you think I could do to improve the image? although obviously I would like to think my photos are perfect, they ain't!

No this can stay here I like the framing of the shot but I have only one criticism - it seems to me that mum's face is ever so slightly sharper than baby's. Maybe a case of misplaced focus?

Not because I disliked the framing but mainly to show a different view (and to cut down on the bright wall behind)



Clone out snot(!), Shadow/Highlights to brighten face, Burn back wall behind, Dodge baby's eyes, Sharpen

Adobe Photoshop Elements (or Lightroom) tends to be what most beginners go for, or are a good choice if you are on a budget. Of course, these are not the simplest, but once you get to know them as it were, you'll have a whole world of editing possibilities open up for you.

Picasa is cheap and cheerful (free!)
Focus looks OK to me - after a bit of lifting of shadow and sharpening

Thank you for that - I use Picasa at the mo, but haven't yet found the Dodge, Burn, Clone (henceforth to be known as Snotfree) buttons, but Shadow/Highlights and Sharpen I have found!
