Re: Please help cure my dogs yellows eye...
Hi Ian - in spite of the colour in your dog's eyes, this effect is called 'red eye', as in most cases the eyes are red.
It is caused by your flash being too close to the lens, so when it fires the light is reflected back towards the camera. This can happen with people as well as animals. Most cameras now have the facility to 'pre flash' several times before the shot is taken. The idea here is that these flashes will make the pupils in the subject's eyes contract before the picture is taken, so usually eliminating this effect. The solution here is easy. Most photo editing software has a red eye removal tool. They are usually automatic, but the method will vary with each editor. Some will have a button that you just press, others will ask you to zoom in on the eyes before it will correct them. You can also do it manually by selecting the areas in the eyes, feathering the selection and changing the colour.

Re: Please help cure my dogs yellows eye...
You need to do it manually then. On a new layer, select the area in the eyes you want to correct, feather by around 50 pixels and then use hue/saturation.
You probably need to aim for a dark brown and might do worse than to sample the dark brown circle around the pupil. |

BTW - some software makers red-eye reduction tools are better than others. I'm sure I read somewhere that PSP is good in this area.

Re: Please help cure my dogs yellows eye...
![]() Just a quick play in my lunch hour. It looks like Paintshop can't do it automatically because the eyes are yellow. Maybe try doing a fill with red and then an auto redeye would have given a better result ![]() |

Re: Please help cure my dogs yellows eye...
Just to check, Graham's comment about selecting the eyes and feathering by 50 pixels might be ok with a high res version but that level of feathering would be way too much for a picture on here. Did you mean 5 instead of 50 Graham? I doubt you'd have selected 50 pixels with such a small area here.
Cheers, Rob |
