Smile Quick Colour tweak help

Hi.

I took this shot today, though the sky was much "bluer" in real life. I`m not sure how I tweak the image in Photoshop to bring that blue (sky) colour forward.

Can anybody Help?

Ta Andy

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

Lots of way to do this. Try selecting the bird and branch and leaves, and everything you do not want to change, then invert the selection. Use the hue/saturation tools to make the change. You can try doing it across the board, or selecting the cyan/blue channel.

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

If you have the option to play with "Selective Colours", I found choosing the "Cyan" with option set to "absolute" you could wack Cyan & Magenta up to 100% without impacting rest of the shot. Advantage of this is not having to worry about masks etc. Result here :-

I'm not that great with Colour, so hopefully others will come along with even better ways of doing it

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

to do well this would be very time consuming but can be achieved reasonably well with this image using the magic wand tool, selecting the sky then get a new sky that suits. I have a few plain sky images just for this type of thing. with the new sky use a layer mask to select the bird and branch by inverting the section and then adding a layer mask while the section is still valid (ie marching ants) then knock the opacity down on the sky's layer to suit the image and or change the sky using levels or curves if needed.
Just to add the more time you spend on the seletion the better the end product, I did your image with the magic wand tolerence set to 32 then added to the section till a reasonable selection was made (but I missed bits).
I included my layers palette in the image as this will explain things better than i ever can

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

In1977 thanks, I have used similar technique, though I cut out using the colour burn paint option in Photoshop ... I thought I`d read somewhere an easyway of boosting the sky in such a shot ...

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

yeah! I find myself always saying the same thing there must be an easier way, lol. I agree there probably is but thats how i'd do it because thats the way I know, I did try other faster/more effective ways before i posted this but to no avail. The way I posted is a long winded route it all comes down to the questions, do you have time? and do you think the image is worth the time? yours is a nice picture good detail and in my opnion worth the effort.
My view is you only have to do the manipulation once then you can look at your final image as many times as you want for the rest of time.

Re: Quick Colour tweak help

Thanks for the advice, I`ve found a book ... that may have the solution, I`ll try it. If it works I`ll post it.
