OK ok...i have changed this opening post a couple of times because I was getting ahead of myself....

I am trying to open a RAW file in Windows....how the heck do i do it? I can see them on my camera's lcd but not when i go to upload????

by the sound of it you need a raw converter. if you do a search on the forums for 'raw converter' you will find pretty much all the info you need i think

Windows will not open RAW files for viewing thumbnails without a bit of software you can download from Microsoft. Charlotte gave the details a while back.

Even with this, you will still need a RAW converter to work on the images and open them in PS. There are a few free progs that can do this, Rawshooter being the most popular.

Right, after hours of searching I found the post I was looking for.

If you download this software, you will be able to view RAW files as thumbnails, but you will still need to use a converter as described in my last post to work on the images.

Raw Shooter Essentials (RSE) was considered by most to be THE one to use. It was so good that Adobe bought the company and then used the technology to make lightroom.

I got me some raw shooter essentials and had a little play around with some of the pictures I took.

Are there any good tutorials or websites about raw photography that you know of?

There is a tutorial in this months digital photo. In fact most of the digi photo magazines do stuff on RAW conversion most months... Hope this helps!

As far as I am concerned, the gold standard for RAW is photoshop cs2 and 3. And the book that I read cover to cover as I was starting was Camera Raw with Adobe CS2 by Fraser.

I am sure that others here have different opinions.
