Removing Poles with GIMP

I threw this image up just for reference. I would like to remove the two poles at the bottom of this image (and the edge of the car if I can) by using GIMP. I do not own PS. Your help would be appreciated. BTW - yes, those are pints of Guiness in the Toucans beak. The image is the side of a very fun Irish pub in our Old Port district.

Re: Removing Poles with GIMP

I've not used GIMP, but it is the clone tool you need to do the job. I'd suggest that you work on a duplicate layer, and if you go wrong - which you will until you get the hang of it - you can, in the last resort, delete it and start over.

If you do it in small steps and go wrong, you can undo the last step in most apps. The above advice is if it goes really pear-shaped!

When you have done, flatten the image and save it as a different file name to preserve your original file.

I think there is a tutorial on cloning in the tutorials forum.

Graham,

Worked like a charm! My wife caught the missed shadow from a pole, but that's the good side of being married to someone who has proofed catalogs as part of her job for the last 15 years. I just found another reason to keep her around a little longer!

Re: Removing Poles with GIMP

If you are using GIMP regularly, then there is an addon that makes it more like photoshop, i don't the addon, but i am sure that in future it might make things easier with editing questions if you were using the better known 'virtual' interface.

Also, i am not sure if this is available for the WinDoze or MAC OSes... I know it's available for SuSe 10.x and other Linux OSes...

I think youre talking about GimpShop, wich you can download here ... it's not an add on its just another version of Gimp.
