Re: Silkypix developer studio 4.0 for tamron

I've seen it mentioned on the forums years ago. It is a universal programme - not only for Tamron - don't know anyone who has used it.

There are lots of reviews about if you ask Google.

Hi Woody, dont forget amongst all the "bumpf" there is the 5 year warranty signup details. This also gives you acces to the Tamron news etc on their site.
Bet you have already taken some "practice" shots.
All the best Charles.

Re: Silkypix developer studio 4.0 for tamron

HI CHARLES, UNFORTUNATELY IT IS ONLY COVERED BY THE RETURN TO HONG KONG WARRANTY. THE EXTENDED FIVE YEAR EU WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER IT.

SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS REALLY, ALTHOUGH THE PURCHASE PRICE IS LESS BY BUYING FROM HONG KONG, BUT IF IT GOES WRONG YOU HAVE TO RETURN IT TO HONG KONG, THEREFOR, IN THE LONG RUN, IT MIGHT BE BETTER TO BUY IT IN THE UK THEN BE COVERED WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME I WILL ORDER FROM HONG KONG, IN FUTURE I WILL PAY THE EXTRA AND STICK WITH MY USUAL SUPPLIERS IN THE UK

I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE LENS THOUGH, IT'S SUPERB

Re: Silkypix developer studio 4.0 for tamron

Usually if anything is going to go wrong it will do it sooner rather than later. In reality it is very unlikely to need any warranty work and the five year warranty is more a marketing ploy (albeit a welcome one) that the makers know that they will probably never have to honour.

Remember that the money you saved will pay for one or two repairs and still leave you quids in.

Roib Barron boiught a Canon 40D from One Stop and when it had a fault he returned it and had a new camera in his hands in less than a week.

Re: Silkypix developer studio 4.0 for tamron

Graham, the warranty as far as i am concerned, is not really the issue.
I appreciate you suggesting trying onestop, as they are cheaper than the uk. To be honest, i found the whole experience to much aggravation.

From tracking it through various destinations, then being told, cannot release it until the vat is paid, try this with their automated payment system, without success, only to be told they are having problems with it, then having to go to their depot to collect it and pay the vat.

Then copy vat receipt, go onto onestop website, fill in a form to claim the vat back. Then if in the unlikely event, something does go wrong with it, go through the process of sending it back to hong kong and the process of it coming back, all over again.

No thank you, never again

Well you still got the lens in 4 days and saved about 200 on UK prices. But if you think that is not worth it I have no issues with that
