Stupid question

I have just bought Photoshop Elements 5. Bearing in mind I am, more or less, totally computer illiterate could somebody help me please. I have been using PSE 3 and have managed to get by but PSE 5 is something else ! Could somebody please tell me how to get all of my piccies on to the workspace at the same time.
At the moment if I press Open another window appears and I can only get one shot on the screen at a time. If I then press Close I go back to the window and have to go through the same process again. Is this the way it works ? If so then any PP`ing will take me a month of Sundays !

Re: Stupid question

At the top right of the window click on the middle box (restore down)then you should see your extra photo.

Hope that helps
John.

Re: Stupid question

If you have too many photos open at once, you'll run out of memory (depending on how large the pics are). Remember that an 8 Megapixel image takes up 24MB of memory (assuming it's an 8-bit image).

Re: Stupid question

Have you used the Photo Bin in the editor? It allows you to select which photo to view from thumbnails of the pictures you have loaded. If you cannot see the thumbnails when you have loaded your photos, click on the thin grey bar near the bottom of the window. Type Photo Bin in the space next to the Help for a etailed description.

Re: Stupid question

Sorry it`s me again. John, I went to the top right of the screen and there were three icons there. One was "Automatically tile windows", one was Cascade windows and the last was "Maximise mode".
Silkstone, On PSE 3 when I loaded some photos on to the PC they initially came up on the Organiser. I would then use the browse folder in Editor and all of the thumbnails would appear. I shall try this now and see what happens.
Thank you all again.

Re: Stupid question

Sorry - I thought you were wanting to have all the images open, rather than just display them as thumbnails in a browser.

Rather off topic, but for a good (Windows) browser which also has some very useful editing/resizing features, you may like to look at the Faststone Viewer - FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ...
