12 year old son + DSLR = bloody good shots!
My 12 year old son has been pestering me to 'help' when I go out with the camera. When I visited the motocross track today I gave him the D300 with grip and the 17-55mm f/2.8 which is quite a heavy combo, stuck it in shutter priority and gave him a very quick lesson on how to use the A/F (my cameras are set to use the AF-ON button), composition and tracking. He used my old D70 once over a year ago and hasn't picked up a camera since. I've just downloaded his shots and bloody hell he's done well, all the shots below have just had a very slight tweak in LR and then re-sized and sharpened for web use. I think you'll agree he's done very well and I might have myself a new assistant although I will probably have to arm him with something like a D40 or D60.

Re: 12 year old son + DSLR = bloody good shots!
Out of the mouths.... and hands.... of babes eh Colin? Cracking set of shots here. I particularly like 6, 9 and 10 for different reasons:
No 6: Because the steward standing in a James Bond pose like he is holding a pistol in his hand looks like he is about to shot the next rider as he flies through the air! No 9: Because the full shadow of bike and rider really adds something to the shot and shows how he is flying through the air. I think I'd crop a bit from left and top but whether you do or don't it's a cracking shot. No 10: For the same reason as everyone else.... it's a belting shot! Great work Colin's son. Take a bow son ![]() Cheers, Rob
